Gavin Hernandez, an 11-year-old prodigy, is gearing up to represent Team USA at the BMX Racing world championships in Brisbane, Australia. Gavin’s love for BMX began at the tender age of five, when a suggestion from a visitor at his father’s bike shop sparked his interest. What started as a casual ride quickly turned into a deep-seated passion. “The first day I rode, I really liked it,” Gavin recalled. “I just started doing it until I just started loving it. I couldn’t stop.”
From Local Tracks to International Arenas
Gavin’s rapid ascent in the world of BMX racing is nothing short of remarkable. He has already made a name for himself by securing a spot on Team USA for the second consecutive year. His first international experience was in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he gained valuable insights and confidence. “I’m not as nervous as last year because I’ve already been through it,” Gavin stated, showcasing his maturity and growing expertise.

The collective provides a supportive environment where Gavin can learn and grow under the guidance of trained professionals.

As Gavin prepares to compete against the world’s best athletes from July 17-19, he is focused on having fun and representing his country with pride. “I had to work hard to get to the point I am now,” he said. “I’m looking forward to having fun on the track and also competing for the United States.”
His father, Michael, expressed his hopes for Gavin’s performance, stating, “We hope he progresses out of the first three rounds.” Beyond the World Championships, Gavin will also compete in the Grand Nationals later this year, further solidifying his place in the BMX racing world.
