Discover the Ferrari Luce’s Playful Dashboard Design

The Ferrari Luce's interior holds a surprising secret—a smiley face design on the dashboard that blends playful aesthetics with Ferrari's heritage.

Discover the Ferrari Luce's Playful Dashboard Design

The Ferrari Luce has sparked strong opinions since its debut, but one aspect of its design has gone largely unnoticed until now. Our correspondent in Italy, Jerry Perez, recently discovered a playful detail on the Luce’s dashboard that adds a touch of whimsy to the controversial electric vehicle.

The Luce’s interior is a study in circular design reminiscent of Apple’s aesthetic over the past three decades. This theme is evident in the gauges, instrument binnacle, screens, and numerous dials, some of which even feature smaller displays within them. While the exterior of the Luce has drawn criticism, the interior is winning over some enthusiasts with its unique approach.

The Smiling Dashboard

Upon closer inspection, the dashboard of the Ferrari Luce reveals an unexpected feature. Between two large circular vents and another circular element below them—possibly a speaker—a smiley face emerges. The seam in the tan leather between the two tiers of the dash forms a wide mouth, completing the emoji-like expression that seems to greet the sky.

This playful design element aligns with the Luce’s softer, friendlier vibe, which departs from traditional Ferrari aesthetics. The Luce offers extensive customization options, allowing buyers to choose from eight different colors for the upper dashboard. Opting for a darker shade like Charcoal or Cioccolato can subtly integrate the black circles, making the smiley face less pronounced.

A Nod to Ferrari’s Heritage

The dash-top vents on the Luce are not entirely new to Ferrari. Iconic models like the F40 and 512BB featured similar vents, though they were smaller and positioned differently. These vents never formed a smiley face before, showcasing how Ferrari is reinterpreting its heritage with a modern twist. Designers Jony Ive and Marc Newson have infused the Luce with a blend of innovation and homage, proving that what’s old is new again.

Whether intentional or not, the smiley face on the Luce’s dashboard adds a layer of charm to the vehicle. It’s a subtle yet significant detail that highlights the thoughtfulness behind the Luce’s design. As Ferrari continues to evolve, it’s clear that the brand is not afraid to experiment with new ideas while paying tribute to its rich history.
