The world of Formula 1 racing has captured the imagination of American sports enthusiasts, thanks to popular shows like Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive and high-profile events in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas. Now, fans in Chicago can immerse themselves in the thrill of F1 racing at a unique new destination: F1 Arcade.
Set to open its doors on Friday, August 14, F1 Arcade Chicago promises an unparalleled blend of high-octane racing and culinary delights. Located in the former Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in River North, this 16,000-square-foot venue spans three floors and can accommodate up to 424 guests. The star attraction? Sixty-one Formula 1-approved full-motion racing simulators that replicate the adrenaline rush of driving at 200 miles per hour.
High-Speed Racing Meets Chicago Charm
F1 Arcade Chicago is not just about racing; it’s about capturing the essence of Formula 1 with a distinct Chicago twist. Liz Norris, VP of launch strategy for F1 Arcade, explains, “F1 is fast cars, beautiful people, and amazing locations around the world, and we try to capture that here with a Chicago filter.” The venue’s design subtly nods to racing with chandeliers mirroring racetracks, floors reminiscent of checkered flags, and neon art pieces representing the heartbeat of drivers in action. Pirelli tire marks on the walls, designed by different local artists for each F1 Arcade spot, add a unique touch.
The racing simulators cater to all skill levels, with five different levels of assistance, allowing players of varying expertise to compete against each other simultaneously. Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a novice, F1 Arcade Chicago offers an inclusive and exciting experience.
Culinary Creations with a Local Twist
F1 Arcade Chicago’s menu is a testament to the city’s diverse culinary scene. From crispy rice salmon teriyaki and East Coast oysters to fried chicken, soft pretzel sticks, and wagyu sliders, there’s something for everyone. The menu also features a variety of tacos, flatbreads, and sandwiches, ensuring that guests can enjoy a meal that suits their tastes. Brunch enthusiasts can indulge in buttermilk pancakes, shakshuka, and chicken and waffles.
To further represent the city, F1 Arcade Chicago has incorporated local purveyors into its menu. Head chef Peter Svachula, a Chicago native, recommended using Caruso giardiniera in a cheese dip and aioli for Chicago-style fries dusted with celery salt. Illinois hot honey tops a spicy ‘nduja pizza, and the Podium Finish dessert features Zarlengo’s frozen custard paired with Garrett popcorn brittle. For an extra $2, guests can add a Malört-infused caramel drizzle.
Cocktails Crafted with Care
The beverage program at F1 Arcade Chicago is equally impressive. Beverage director LP O’Brien collaborated with James Beard Award-winning bartender and chef Julia Momosé of Kumiko to create two exclusive cocktails. Momosé’s creations, the Paddock Spritz and the Wolf Point, blend exceptional Chicago spirits with Japanese spirits, offering layers of flavor and a sense of discovery.
The Paddock Spritz combines Haku vodka, Koval cranberry gin liqueur, clover honey, Moët & Chandon Champagne, and lime, inspired by Formula 1’s paddock. The Wolf Point pays homage to the historic Chicago location where three river branches meet, featuring Suntory Toki whisky, yuzu junmai sake, Green Chartreuse, banana, lemon, and Angostura bitters.
“These drinks feel exciting, social, and celebratory, while still reflecting the way I think about flavor and hospitality,” Momosé says. “It was also an opportunity to celebrate Chicago spirits alongside Japanese spirits, which felt like a meaningful way to represent both the city I’m proud to call home and the heritage that continues to shape my work.”
F1 Arcade Chicago is open from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday to Thursday, 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday. After 7 p.m., the venue is 21+ only. Reservations can be made on OpenTable, and racing simulators can be booked separately.
