Exploring Porsche's Motorsport Legacy at the Stuttgart Museum

The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart is inviting enthusiasts to embark on a thrilling journey through time with its special exhibition, Raceborn – 75 Years of Porsche Motorsport. This immersive experience, open until 17 January 2027, offers a unique perspective on the brand’s enduring racing legacy, showcasing more than 30 vehicles from 1951 to the present day.

The exhibition is not just a retrospective; it’s an exploration of how motorsport has been the heartbeat of Porsche’s identity. From the Porsche 356 SL‘s historic class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951 to today’s cutting-edge race cars, the exhibition highlights the brand’s commitment to innovation and excellence on the track.

The Evolution of Porsche Motorsport

The exhibition is structured around six thematic areas: racing classesdiversityinnovationsmilestonespeople and regulations. Each area offers a different lens through which to view Porsche’s motorsport journey. The museum’s new design concept, featuring a red ribbon that winds through the exhibition like a racetrack, adds a dynamic element to the visitor experience.

Visitors will encounter a diverse range of vehicles, each telling its own story. The 356 SL represents Porsche’s early international success, while the Formula E 99X Electric illustrates the brand’s adaptation to changing technical conditions. The Porsche 963 stands for today’s prototype and endurance racing world, and the Cayman GT4 e-Performance study offers a glimpse into the future of motorsport.

An Interactive Experience

The exhibition is designed to be accessible and engaging for all visitors. A motorsport pyramid explains the structure of racing categories, while a motorsport glossary introduces key terms. Interactive displays, such as a lenticular installation, explore how different regulations have shaped vehicle concepts over time. A mini cinema provides insights into the restoration of historic race cars, addressing questions about preservation and authenticity.

For younger visitors, the Raceborn Kids program brings the key themes to life in a playful and engaging way. Interactive elements, sound and tactile experiences, and digital applications make motorsport accessible and fun for children. The program addresses questions such as why weight matters in racing and how a team operates during a 24-hour event.

Supporting Program and Events

The museum will host five annual motorsport talks in German, covering topics such as historic racing cars, Formula E, and behind-the-scenes work in competition. These talks offer a deeper dive into the world of Porsche Motorsport, providing insights from experts and industry professionals.

The exhibition is a testament to Porsche’s enduring passion for motorsport. As Achim Stejskal, Head of Porsche Heritage and Museum, puts it, “Porsche is motorsport. And motorsport has made Porsche what we are today.” This exhibition is a celebration of that legacy and a mission for the future, showcasing the full spectrum of this special part of Porsche’s DNA.
