The Renault Twingo has long been a favorite among compact car enthusiasts, but it’s the model’s special editions that have truly captured imaginations. Over the years, Renault has collaborated with a variety of brands to create unique, limited-edition Twingo models that stand out from the crowd. These special editions, each with their own distinct features and design elements, have been a hit across Europe, from France to Slovenia.
What sets these special editions apart is not just their aesthetic appeal, but also the exclusive features and collaborations that come with them. Whether it’s the integration of cutting-edge technology or the partnership with renowned brands, each Twingo special edition offers something unique to its owners. Let’s delve into some of the most memorable Twingo special editions and explore what made them so special.
The Early Years: Nokia and Night & Day
The journey of Renault Twingo’s special editions began in 2007 with the Nokia edition. This collaboration with the Finnish tech giant brought a touch of innovation to the compact car. Available in Bianco Ghiaccio and Nero Perla the Nokia Twingo featured distinctive Dark Metal wheel covers and a unique adhesive graphic resembling a circuit board on the pillar, along with the Nokia logo. The real standout feature, however, was the included Nokia 6110 Navigator phone, complete with GPSBluetooth dual cameras, 3G and a memory card slot.
Following the success of the Nokia edition, Renault introduced the Night & Day version in 2008. This edition, available in several European countries, including Italy, Spain, and Austria, featured a floral graphic and the Night & Day logo on the central pillar, fog light frames, and rear hatch. The interior was equally distinctive, with special Moto fabric upholstery, white stitching, and glossy black accents on the climate control knobs and tachometer frame. A unique touch was the key fobs, which were painted to match the car’s body color and featured the same floral graphic.
Surf, Style, and Sound: Rip Curl, Dolce Vita, and Walkman
In 2009 Renault partnered with Rip Curl the Australian surfwear brand, to create a Twingo edition that appealed to the sporty and stylish. Available in six vibrant colors, the Rip Curl Twingo featured the brand’s logo on the rear windows, fog light frames, and rear light surrounds. The interior was a highlight, with a unique gray pattern adorned with red stitching and the Rip Curl logo embroidered on the headrests. Red accents were also found on the climate control buttons and tachometer frame, while the special door sill covers echoed the interior’s pattern.
Also in 2009 Renault launched the Dolce Vita edition, exclusively for the French market. Inspired by the legendary Renault 4 Parisienne this edition featured unique Canange adhesive finishes on the headlight frames, pillars, and door handles. Available in white, black, Marrone Anacardi and Bianco Vaniglia the Dolce Vita Twingo offered a nostalgic yet modern appeal.
The Walkman edition, introduced in 2010 was a collaboration with Sony celebrating the iconic music player. This edition was relatively understated on the outside, with only the Walkman logo adorning the rear hatch. However, the interior was enhanced with a Sony MEX BT3800 radio featuring a CD MP3 player and Bluetooth connectivity, paired with four 52W speakers. Owners also received a Walkman NWZE443B MP3 player with 4 GB of storage.
Parisian Chic and Rally Ready: Rive Gauche and R1
In the same year, Renault introduced the Rive Gauche edition, named after the famous Parisian district. This edition, available in France and Austria, featured adhesive graphics inspired by the Eiffel Tower on the fog light frames, pillars, and door handles. The interior was more subdued, with the same upholstery as the Expression trim but with less colorful decorations. Red accents were still present on the dashboard, tachometer frame, and glove box.
For those with a passion for rally racing, Renault offered the R1 edition in 2009. Based on the Renaultsport 133 this edition was designed for budget-conscious racers. It featured a roll cage, a revised engine control unit for improved low-end response, and a racing livery with white graphics and checkered patterns. The R1 also came with yellow Sabelt racing harnesses, adding to its sporty appeal.
From tech-savvy collaborations to sporty and stylish editions, the Renault Twingo special editions have left a lasting impression on car enthusiasts. Each edition, with its unique features and design elements, tells a story of innovation, style, and passion for the open road.
