The Valli&Nebbie event has been a cornerstone of Italian historic motoring for over three decades. Under the leadership of Riccardo Zavatti, a consigliere federale ASI and head of Officina Ferrarese, the event has grown into a celebrated occasion that beautifully merges the enthusiasm for vintage automobiles with the appreciation of the region’s unique landscapes.
Born in Ferrara in 1952, Zavatti’s journey with motors began on a memorable day: February 6, 1967. This was when Ferrari achieved a monumental victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in Florida, triumphing over Ford on their home turf. The historic parade finish, with the Ferrari 330 P4 and 412 P securing all three podium positions, left an indelible mark on Zavatti. “It was my baptism of fire,” he recalls. “The thrill drove me to collect automotive magazines like Autosprint and Quattroruote, and I’ve been hooked ever since.”
The Evolution of Valli&Nebbie
Valli&Nebbie, which kicks off the ASI Circuito Tricolore calendar, is now in its 36th edition. Zavatti credits much of the event’s success to Giulio Felloni, the former president who ingeniously showcased the Delta del Po’s most picturesque locations. When Zavatti took the helm, he focused on refining the event’s organization. This year, the event attracted 90 teams, with a significant waiting list. “We strive to accommodate everyone within our means,” Zavatti explains. “Our participants are our guests, and we aim to create a tailored experience for them. The loyalty we’ve built over the years motivates us to continue with the same dedication.”
The Allure of the Po River
Valli&Nebbie’s magic lies in its blend of history, culture, and cinematography. The event often starts in Ferrara, a city renowned for its Castello Estensea historic landmark featured in the films of Michelangelo Antonioni. The castle serves as a backdrop for the classic cars during their stops. Antonioni once remarked, “The Padana people feel the Po; we don’t know in what this feeling consists; it is diffused in the air and is suffered as a subtle enchantment.” This intimate connection with the river is at the heart of Valli&Nebbie’s appeal.
The event is not just about the cronometroit’s about camaraderie, enjoying the company of fellow enthusiasts, and forming a deep bond with one’s classic car. It’s a weekend immersed in the beauty of the Great River, a unique experience that keeps participants coming back year after year.
