MotoGP Riders Finalize 2027 Moves: Bastianini, Mir, and Martin Switch Teams

The MotoGP world is abuzz with the latest rider transfers that are set to redefine the 2027 season. Enea Bastianini, Joan Mir, and Jorge Martin have all secured new rides, marking significant shifts in the premier class of motorcycle racing.

These moves come as teams strategically position themselves for the upcoming season, with riders seeking new challenges and manufacturers aiming to bolster their lineups. The transfers highlight the dynamic nature of MotoGP, where success often hinges on the right combination of rider talent and team support.

Enea Bastianini Joins Trackhouse Aprilia

Enea Bastianini is now free to finalize his move to Trackhouse Aprilia after KTM’s option to retain him for the 2027 season expired. The Italian rider, known for his seven MotoGP race wins with Ducati, had been linked with the American team for some time. This move will see Bastianini become the fifth MotoGP outfit he has raced for and his third different manufacturer.

Bastianini’s impressive performances, including a podium finish at Catalunya last year and a third-place finish in this year’s COTA Sprint, have made him a sought-after rider. He will partner Raul Fernandez at Trackhouse, taking over the seat previously held by Ai Ogura, who is joining the factory Yamaha team.

Meanwhile, Maverick Vinales’ future remains uncertain. The Spaniard, who had been recovering from shoulder injuries, has expressed doubts about staying with KTM. This uncertainty leaves KTM poised to run four new riders next season, including Alex Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio at the factory team, and Luca Marini at Tech3.

Joan Mir Secures Factory Ducati Status with Gresini

Joan Mir has confirmed his move to Gresini for the 2027 season, where he will inherit the factory Ducati support enjoyed by Alex Marquez this season. The 2026 MotoGP world champion, who has been a factory team rider throughout his career, is following in the footsteps of former teammate Marc Marquez by joining Gresini.

The official announcement highlighted that Mir will ride a factory-spec Ducati, a significant detail given the new technical regulations for 2027. These regulations mean every manufacturer starts with a new bike, but factory-supported riders will receive priority for new developments. Mir’s rookie teammate, Dani Holgado, is expected to ride a satellite-spec 850cc Ducati next season.

Gresini has also confirmed a new multi-year agreement with Ducati, underscoring the team’s commitment to the partnership. This move solidifies Gresini’s position as a key player in Ducati’s project, with the aim of achieving ambitious goals on the track.

Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura Form Yamaha’s Factory Lineup

Yamaha has confirmed the signings of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura for the 2027 season, forming the manufacturer’s factory MotoGP lineup. Martin, who has shown remarkable resilience and speed, will bring his championship-winning mentality to Yamaha. Ogura, fresh off his maiden premier-class victory at the Dutch GP, will become Yamaha’s first Japanese factory rider in MotoGP.

Martin’s move to Yamaha marks the end of a turbulent spell with Aprilia, where injuries had previously threatened his career. However, his strong performances this year, including a win at Le Mans and pole position at Assen, have reinvigorated his career. Ogura’s move materialized after Trackhouse failed to secure his future, opening the door for Yamaha to step in and wrap up the deal.

With these transfers, the MotoGP grid for 2027 is taking shape. KTM is expected to announce that Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio will join the Austrian manufacturer, while Honda is expected to confirm the signing of Fabio Quartararo. At Pramac, Toprak Razgatlioglu is expected to partner Izan Guevara, who will step up from Paolo Campinoti’s Moto2 outfit.
