The 2026 edition of the 1000 Miglia promises to be a spectacular homage to Italy’s rich motoring history. This year’s event, the 44th historic reenactment, will see 450 vintage cars embark on a 2,000-kilometer journey, retracing the iconic eight-shaped route from Brescia to Rome and back. The rally, which runs from June 9 to June 13is not just a celebration of classic automobiles but also a tribute to the Italian landscapes and culture that have made the 1000 Miglia a global phenomenon.

The 1000 Miglia, often referred to as the most beautiful race in the worldhas a storied past that dates back to 1927. Originally a speed race, it was transformed into a historic rally in 1977 to preserve the spirit of the event while ensuring safety. The 2026 edition is particularly significant as it marks the final chapter before the centennial celebration in 2027. The event is organized by 1000 Miglia Srlwith Beatrice Saottini and Fulvio D’Alvia at the helm, guiding the rally towards a future that honors its past.

The Legendary Route: A Journey Through Italy’s Heartland

The 2026 1000 Miglia will follow the traditional eight-shaped route, a tribute to the first 12 editions of the speed race. The journey begins in Brescia on June 9with the first leg taking participants through the Val Trompia, Val Sabbia, and the shores of Lake Garda before arriving in Padova. The following day, the convoy will traverse the Apennines, passing through FerraraModenaand Reggio Emiliabefore ascending to the Passo dell’Abetone and concluding in Montecatini Terme.

On June 11the rally will immerse itself in the heart of Tuscanywith stops in LuccaPisaand a luncheon in the historic Piazza del Campo in Siena. The day will culminate in Romethe traditional halfway point of the journey. The return leg on June 12 will take the convoy through TerniFolignoAssisiand Gubbiobefore crossing the Gola del Furlo and the Republic of San Marinoending in Rimini. The final leg on June 13 will see the participants pass through CerviaFerraraand Mantova before returning triumphantly to Brescia.

A Parade of Automotive Excellence

The 2026 1000 Miglia will feature a stunning array of vintage cars, each with its own unique story. Among the highlights are seven O.M. 665 S MM Superba 2000 CM3 and one O.M. 469which will lead the parade. The lineup also includes 27 Alfa Romeo sports cars from the pre-war era, such as the 6C 15006C 1750 SSand the rare 8C 2600 MM Spider Zagato “SF”. Ferrari enthusiasts will be thrilled to see models like the 166 MM250 MMand 340 Americawhich have written some of the most glorious chapters in motorsport history.

Other notable participants include BMW 328Bugatti Type 35Type 37Type 40Jaguar C-TypeMaserati A6 GCSand Mercedes 300 SL. Adding to the historical significance are 79 “Participant” vehicles, which actually competed in the 1000 Miglia between 1927 and 1957. These cars are not just exhibits but active participants, adding a layer of authenticity and nostalgia to the event.

While the 1000 Miglia is often romanticized for its vintage charm, it is also a highly competitive event. Participants will face 144 timed sections and 8 average speed tests, demanding both precision and a deep understanding of their vehicles. The rally is renowned as one of the most challenging regolarità (regularity) races for classic cars, testing drivers and navigators on a route that balances scenic beauty with technical complexity.

The 2026 edition is not just about the race; it’s a celebration of Italian culture and heritage. The event kicks off on June 7 in Bresciawith technical checks and events for enthusiasts, including the Villaggio 1000 Miglia and the Trofeo Roberto Gaburri. On June 8the Teatro Grande in Brescia will host 1000 Innovazionian event that explores the role of the 1000 Miglia as a catalyst for technical innovation.

Looking ahead to the centennial in 2027, the organizers emphasize the strategic importance of the 2026 edition.
