Subaru recalls 2026 Forester models over potential sunroof detachment risk

Subaru is recalling certain 2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid models due to a potential sunroof detachment issue, affecting approximately 2.9% of the recalled vehicles.

Subaru recalls 2026 Forester models over potential sunroof detachment risk

Subaru has initiated a recall for certain 2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid models due to a critical issue with the sunroof assembly. The company has identified a potential problem where the glass roof panel may not be properly bonded to the frame, posing a risk of detachment during vehicle usage.

The recall affects a total of 69,663 vehicles, including 65,656 standard Forester models built between June 19, 2026, and March 13, 2026, and 4,007 Forester Hybrids built from February 20, 2026, to May 17, 2026. Subaru estimates that around 2,020 units, or 2.9% of the recalled models, may be impacted by the defect.

The Issue: Potential Sunroof Detachment

The problem stems from the moonroof assemblies where the glass panel may not have been properly bonded to the sliding frame. Over time, the bonding adhesion could deteriorate, leading to the glass roof becoming detached during the usage of the vehicle. While the primary risk is to other road users who might encounter the detached glass, Subaru is taking proactive measures to address the issue.

Subaru became aware of the issue after receiving three technical reports regarding Forester sunroof problems. The investigation, which began in February, revealed that a supplier might have manufactured the roof assemblies without properly applying the bonding agent. Despite the potential risk, there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Subaru’s Response and Next Steps

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified of the recall before July 24. Dealers will inspect the glass panels for proper adhesion and replace the assembly if necessary, at no cost to the owners. This proactive approach underscores Subaru’s commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

The recall serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle inspections and the potential consequences of manufacturing defects. Subaru’s swift action in addressing the issue highlights the company’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its vehicles on the road.
