After a two-week break, the Michelin® Grand Prix of Aragon promises to be a pivotal moment in the title race, with Jorge Martin leading the charge for Aprilia Racing.
The championship battle is tighter than ever, with just 41 points separating the top five riders. Martin extended his lead to 31 points after a strong performance at Silverstone but the title race remains wide open. Raul Fernandez the winner of the British GP, is just 56 points behind in sixth place, adding to the excitement.
The Aprilia advantage and key contenders
Jorge Martin has been a standout performer for Aprilia Racing showcasing consistency and skill. His pole position, Tissot Sprint victory, and Sunday 20-pointer at Silverstone demonstrated his prowess. However, MotorLand Aragon presents a different challenge, where Aprilia may not be the favorites.
Marco Bezzecchi Martin’s teammate, had a much-needed boost at Silverstone, rising to second in the championship. His improved form and fitness will be crucial as the season progresses. Meanwhile, Ai Ogura of SuperFiles Trackhouse MotoGP Team will be looking to bounce back from a mistake at Silverstone and continue his podium streak.
Marc Márquez and Ducati’s response
Many eyes will be on Marc Márquez and the Ducati Lenovo Team this weekend. Despite a tough weekend at Silverstone, Márquez remains just 40 points behind Martin. MotorLand Aragon has been a historic stronghold for Márquez, with seven wins at the track. Expect a strong response from the seven-time MotoGP World Champion.
Alex Márquez riding for BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP was the standout Ducati rider at Silverstone, securing two fourth-place finishes. Although not in the title contention, he will be a significant player in the remaining races. The return of Fermin Aldeguer the 2026 Rookie of the Year, adds another layer of excitement as he looks to rebuild his form.
Pedro Acosta’s podium aspirations and KTM’s performance
Pedro Acosta of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has been pushing the limits of the RC16 this season. His performance at Silverstone was impressive, and he will be looking to make a podium assault at MotorLand Aragon. Last season, he secured a fourth-place finish at this track.
In the KTM stable, Brad Binder has been consistent, securing back-to-back top 10 finishes. He will be looking to continue this form at MotorLand Aragon. Enea Bastianini known as ‘The Beast,’ will also be aiming to bounce back from a DNF at Silverstone. The lineup for Aragon includes either Pol Espargaro or Maverick Viñales who is recovering from a shoulder injury.
Honda’s consistency and Zarco’s return
Luca Marini of Honda HRC Castrol has been the only rider to score points in every Grand Prix this season. His consistency has placed him in tenth position with 86 points. Rookie Diogo Moreira is the next best HRC rider, in fifteenth place. They will be looking to replicate their double top 10 finish from Silverstone.
Johann Zarco is set to make his return to the Castrol Honda LCR machine at MotorLand Aragon, pending a medical check. His return adds another dimension to the championship battle. Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will be looking to bounce back from a points-less weekend at Silverstone.
