Nissan has unveiled a series of updates for its NoteNote Aura and Note Aura Nismo models in Japan. The 2026 model year brings subtle yet significant enhancements, including new Black Editions and a range of equipment upgrades. While the updates are modest, they add a fresh appeal to these popular subcompact hatchbacks.
The most notable addition is the Note Aura Nismo Black Limited which now serves as the flagship model of the entire Note lineup. This special edition retains the standard Nismo’s aerodynamic package but replaces the traditional red accents with glossy black trim. The Black Limited also features sporty decals on the hood, special badging, and a comprehensive suite of equipment, including a Bose Personal Plus audio systemNissanConnect navigation and the ProPilot ADAS suite.
The Note and Note Aura Black Editions
The regular Note and Note Aura models received a facelift in mid-2026, limiting the 2026 updates to subtle refinements. Both models now offer Black Editions, which add black accents to the grille, emblems, mirror caps, and alloy wheels. The interiors also feature dark-themed designs.
The Note Black Edition introduces a new bi-tone shade combining Pure White Pearl and Midnight Black. It comes equipped with the Intelligent Around View Monitor and Intelligent Mirror. On the other hand, the Note Aura Black Edition includes the Bose Plus Sound System connected navigation, and ProPilot, mirroring the features of the Nismo Black Limited.
Enhanced Equipment and Features
Across the broader 2026 model year range, most Note and Note Aura trims switch from traditional leather to a new TailorFit synthetic leather for the steering wheel wrap. Additionally, heated front seats and steering are now standard. The Note Autech Line adopts a body-colored finish for the grille, replacing the previous chrome accents.
The Note and Note Aura continue to be fitted with carry-over self-charging hybrid setups. These include a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine acting as a generator, paired with single (FWD) or dual (4WD) electric motors. The internal combustion engine (ICE) produces 81 hp (60 kW / 82 PS) across the lineup. The front electric motors have different outputs, generating 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS) on the Note and 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) on the Note Aura. The optional rear motor contributes an additional 67 hp (50 kW / 68 PS).
The Note Aura Nismo benefits from a Nismo drive mode, which promises a sharper accelerator response, stronger regenerative braking, and a recalibrated e-Power system. The Nismo also features more aggressive aerodynamics, Recaro buckets, a sportier suspension and steering, and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires.
Future Prospects and Pricing
While there is no sign of a proper hot hatch yet, the Nismo RS Concept from the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon suggested that a high-performance variant might be under development. The prototype featured a wide bodykit, a lower ride height, and a more potent AWD hybrid setup from the X-Trail Nismo, producing a combined 211 hp (157 kW / 215 PS). Enthusiasts hope that a production Nismo RS will join the Note Aura lineup in the future.
The updated Nissan Note starts at ¥2,399,100 ($15,100) in Japan, while the slightly upmarket Note Aura is priced from ¥2,849,000 ($17,900). The Note Autech Crossover starts at ¥2,891,900 ($18,200), and the Note Aura Autech at ¥3,141,600 ($19,700). Finally, the Note Aura Nismo starts at ¥3,163,600 ($19,900) and climbs to ¥4,011,700 ($25,200) for the flagship Black Limited e-Power 4WD.
