The 2025 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship recently unfolded at Road Atlanta, where Altus Motorsports demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance from its talented rider lineup. Faced with unpredictable weather and a challenging field, the team not only showcased speed but also their ability to adapt and overcome obstacles. Each rider contributed to a weekend filled with thrilling races, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
Jake Lewis leads the charge for Altus Motorsports
Jake Lewis showcased his prowess on the Yamaha YZF-R9, qualifying in 5th place during Q2. His performance in the races was nothing short of impressive. In Race 1, despite mixed conditions, Lewis held the lead for a significant portion of the race and ultimately finished in 2nd place, just missing out on the top spot. He followed this up with a solid 6th place finish in Race 2, which keeps him prominently ranked within the top 10 of the championship standings.
Reflecting on his performance, Lewis expressed mixed feelings about narrowly missing the win: “It stings a bit to lead the entire race and lose a win on the last lap, but I’m still really happy with that ride. We’ve made great progress with the R9 since Barber, and I hope to be in contention for podiums throughout the season. I owe a huge thanks to the Altus Motorsports Team, especially my Crew Chief, Jeremy McWilliams, and my mechanic, Will, for their hard work.”
Torin Collins achieves season-best results
Torin Collins had a standout weekend aboard his Suzuki GSX-R750, qualifying 10th and finishing 13th in Race 1. His efforts culminated in a season-best 8th place finish in Race 2, marking a significant achievement for the young rider. Collins noted that the weekend was a great confidence booster as he navigated the tricky conditions with improved setup and strategy.
“This was a great confidence booster in Atlanta. The bike and team were dialed in, and we found a solid direction in setup—it showed on track,” Collins commented. “Race 1 had its challenges with the unpredictable conditions, but I managed to earn more points. Race 2 was the highlight as I rode hard and aggressive, achieving my first top 10 of the season. Even with a nagging thumb injury, my pace was right there with the front group, which is a great sign of what’s to come.”
Owen Williams and Jaret Nassaney face challenges
Owen Williams, riding his Suzuki GSX-R750, faced a weekend full of ups and downs. After qualifying in 17th place, he made a strong start in Race 1, reaching the 10th position early on. However, after avoiding a crash by teammate Jaret Nassaney, he found himself pushed to the back and ultimately finished in 23rd place. In Race 2, attempting to gain ground in Turn 1, Williams was overaggressive and crashed out.
“Atlanta was a roller coaster of conditions and unexpected challenges,” Williams said. “However, I’m leaving the weekend feeling confident and ready to push for a top ten finish at round 3 in Wisconsin, my favorite track.”
On the other hand, Jaret Nassaney endured a tumultuous weekend. After facing mechanical issues in Practice 1 that led to significant damage to his bike, the team worked diligently to rebuild his Yamaha YZF-R9 in time for qualifying, where he secured 13th place. His Race 1 performance saw him climb to 9th place before he unfortunately crashed out. Despite the challenges, he managed to finish 14th in Race 2, showcasing his determination to push through injury.
“It was a roller coaster weekend! I had a great start in Race 1 and felt confident in my pace, but I lost the rear and crashed,” Nassaney reflected. “I fought through the pain in Race 2 and managed to salvage some points, even though it wasn’t the weekend I had hoped for.”
Altus Motorsports looks ahead
The Altus Motorsports team displayed resilience, speed, and consistent improvement over the weekend. As they prepare for the next round at Road America, the team is focused on converting their lessons learned into podium finishes. Team Owner George Nassaney expressed pride in the team’s progress, stating, “The entire team is really starting to gel. It feels like a family, which is the vibe we have always strived for at Altus. I am extremely proud of how all of our riders are doing and the way our crew is stepping up to support them. I am really looking forward to the rest of the season.”
With a strong lineup and increasing confidence, Altus Motorsports is set to make waves in the upcoming races. Their commitment to excellence, combined with support from their sponsors, sets a promising outlook for the season ahead.
