Instead, it is powered by a conventional 6.4-liter V-8 engine, providing 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. This engine is dependable but lacks the refinement found in Ford’s 7.3-liter Godzilla V-8 engine.
Conversely, the Rebel HD retains the gas V-8 as its standard engine. It now offers an optional 6.7-liter Cummins inline-6 turbodiesel for an additional $12,595. This engine generates 430 horsepower and an impressive 1,075 lb-ft of torque, appealing to buyers who require heavy-duty performance. While this torque rating exceeds that of Chevy, it still falls short of Ford’s 1,200 lb-ft.
Enhanced Performance Features

These include a new turbocharger and intake manifold, the replacement of the older grid heater with glow plugs, and the upgrade to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The absence of a turbodiesel option presents a missed opportunity, especially as competitors increasingly offer such engines in their off-road models. While Killian did not confirm specific plans for a turbodiesel Power Wagon, he suggested that such developments could be feasible in the future.
Ride Quality and Suspension Dynamics
Differences in ride comfort between the two models are notable. The Power Wagon features soft Bilstein off-road shocks, providing a comfortable ride both on and off-road. In contrast, the Rebel HD is equipped with firmer dampers, focusing on towing and hauling capabilities. The Rebel can tow up to 17,130 pounds and haul 3,320 pounds with the gas V-8. The turbodiesel option increases towing capacity to an impressive 19,890 pounds, although the payload drops to 2,450 pounds.
In comparison, the Power Wagon’s towing capacity is limited to 10,530 pounds, which aligns with its intended design. Its suspension system ensures superior ride quality, particularly evident during off-road excursions. For example, while navigating the rocky terrain of the Old Kingman Highway Recreational Area, the Power Wagon demonstrated superior traction compared to the Rebel, which faced challenges without similar advanced features.
