The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship resumed with a thrilling Race 1 at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France. Nicolo Bulega riding for Racing – Ducati started from pole position and delivered a commanding performance, securing a 3.118-second margin of victory in the 12-lap race.
The race was initially red-flagged due to an incident involving Tommy Bridewell at turns 14-15. Despite the interruption, Bulega maintained his composure and capitalized on the restart to extend his championship lead significantly.
Bulega’s Strategic Mastery
Bulega’s victory was not just about speed but also strategy. He grabbed the holeshot at the start, but his teammate Iker Lecuona quickly took the lead. Bulega reclaimed the lead on Lap 3 and built a half-second gap by Lap 6. Lecuona’s relentless pursuit kept the race exciting, but Bulega’s consistent pace and a new race lap record ensured his dominance.
This victory marked Bulega’s 44th career win placing him above Noriyuki Haga in the all-time standings. With 24 wins out of 25 races this season, Bulega is just three wins shy of Alvaro Bautista‘s all-time record of 27 wins in a single campaign.
Championship Standings and Key Performances
Bulega now leads the championship with 516 points138 points ahead of Lecuona, who has 378 points. Yari Montella holds the third position with 224 points.
Sam Lowes riding for ELF Marc VDS Racing Team completed the podium with a strong third-place finish. Garrett Gerloff crossed the finish line in ninth place on his Kawasaki ZX-10RR while Danilo Petrucci finished 13th on his ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team M1000RR.
Battles and Incidents
The race saw intense battles and several incidents. Yari Montella and Alex Lowes engaged in a fierce duel for fourth place, with Montella ultimately securing the position. Axel Bassani climbed from 16th to seventh, showcasing his resilience and skill.
Several riders faced challenges, including Jake Dixon who scored his first points of the season with an 11th-place finish. Alvaro Bautista crashed but managed to rejoin the race, collecting two championship points. Other notable retirements included Somkiat ChantraRemy GardnerMiguel Oliveira and Mattia Rato.
