The Automotive Technology Program: A Foundation for Success
The Automotive Technology program at Butte College is certified by the ASE Education Foundation a mark of quality that opens doors to employment in dealerships, government agencies, fleet operations, and independent service shops. The program is housed at the Skyway Center in Chico, a modern facility equipped with all the tools and training aids required by the ASE.
The program’s goal is to develop highly skilled entry-level technicians with professional work habits. Students can earn an Associate Degree or a Certificate of Achievement with the option to take general education courses at various centers or online, offering flexibility to suit individual schedules.
Specialized Training with Honda and Acura
For those interested in specialized training, Butte College offers the Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Technology – Honda, Professional automotive career Training (PACT). This program prepares students to enter the workforce as entry-level Honda and Acura technicians in dealerships nationwide. The PACT program is also certified by the ASE Education Foundation and is part of a partnership with American Honda ensuring students receive top-tier training tailored to the needs of Honda and Acura dealerships.
Students in the PACT program can also pursue an Associate of Science Degree in Automotive Technology, combining specialized training with a broader educational foundation.
Diesel Technology: Powering the Future
Butte College also offers a Certificate of Achievement in Diesel Technology preparing students for employment in the diesel car, truck, and equipment industry. This program combines technical theory with practical hands-on instruction, building the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level employment in this high-wage field.
Students can earn an Associate of Science Degree in Diesel Technology, which is designed to provide the light and medium-duty diesel industry with well-prepared entry-level technicians. The program’s rural location and strong agricultural influence create a demand for technicians trained in diesel-powered trucks and equipment. Graduates earn Section 609 Compliance Certification allowing them to service refrigeration units, as well as Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) brake inspection certification.
The program provides tools, safety glasses, and uniforms as students progress, and partnerships with tool companies allow students to purchase discounted entry-level tool sets before graduation.
Flexibility and Support
Both the Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology programs are primarily taught at the Skyway Center where nearly all required coursework is offered. While most courses are available at the Skyway Center, students may need to work with a counselor to fill in any gaps. General education courses can be taken at various centers or online, providing flexibility to suit individual needs.
Butte College’s Automotive technology programs are more than just educational pathways; they are gateways to dynamic and rewarding careers. With a focus on hands-on training, industry partnerships, and comprehensive support, students are well-equipped to drive their future forward in the automotive industry.
