Texas Mini Cup kicks off with thrilling races
The much-anticipated first round of the Texas Mini Cup took place on April 26 at the scenic KartMoto track in Cresson, Texas. With ideal weather conditions, racers and spectators alike were treated to a day filled with adrenaline and excitement. The day’s events began with morning practice and qualifying sessions, showcasing fast lap times from a competitive field of participants. The schedule included six-lap sprint races before the lunch break, followed by ten-lap GP races that concluded the day’s racing festivities.
New racers make their debut
In addition to the thrilling races, the event also marked a significant milestone for seven new racers who graduated from the New Racers School. This was their first time gridding up, adding an element of fresh talent to the competition. Spectators were treated to spectacular drone footage captured by Sky Perspective Media, which added a new dimension to the viewing experience.
Mini Cup qualifiers deliver intense competition
The racing action was nothing short of exhilarating. The MotoAmerica Mission Mini Cup qualifier classes featured a total of eleven categories, including Stock 50 MA, Stock 110 MA, Flo4law GP 110 MA, KYT Helmets GP 160 MA, Fuller Family Racing GP 190 MA, and Street GP MA. A remarkable total of 58 entries took to the .76 mile, ten-turn course, with standout performances from racers like Maverick Johnson (#163) and Maverick Nichols (#3). Johnson secured three wins across GP 110 MA, GP 160 MA, and GP 190 MA, while Nichols showcased his skills with strong finishes, including second place in GP 110 MA and GP 160 MA.
Close contests in supporting classes
The excitement extended beyond the main qualifiers, as the supporting classes also delivered close and competitive racing. Kellan Funkhouser (#279) emerged victorious in both the Super and Unlimited Mini categories, demonstrating his prowess on the track. Meanwhile, Aiden Sneed (#613) showcased exceptional skill by claiming victories in the GP 250 class. Not to be outdone, Rossi Garcia (#30) secured a podium finish in the 400 Superstock, highlighting the depth of talent participating in the event.
450 Supermoto class steals the show
Among all the categories, the 450 Supermoto class stood out as the largest and most action-packed. Two-time Italian Supermoto Champion, Matteo Traversa (#101), dominated the competition, taking home both wins. He was closely followed by Chase Black (#14) and David Roth Jr (#181), who each secured two podium finishes, adding to the thrilling atmosphere of the day.
