The automotive world has witnessed a remarkable digital tribute to one of its most iconic models. Haste, a studio founded by Carlos Pecino, known online as ColorSponge, has unveiled a digital concept car that reinterprets the legendary Lamborghini Countach. This project, named Bellezzaaims to infuse modern and futuristic elements into the classic design, all while respecting the original lines crafted by Marcello Gandini.
The concept behind Bellezza is rooted in the idea of reduction before addition. The designers sought to strip the Countach down to its essence, understanding what makes it timeless, before introducing any new features. This approach ensures that the car’s iconic silhouette remains intact, while subtle modifications enhance its modern appeal.
The Evolution of Design: Modernizing the Countach
One of the key aspects of the Bellezza concept is the focus on purity and aerodynamics. The original rearview mirrors have been redesigned to be more modern and aerodynamic, and the windshield wipers have been removed, a practical decision given the car’s digital nature. The characteristic wedge-shaped silhouette of the Countach is highlighted, with particular attention to the side window lines, which have been reworked for a smoother transition to the slightly recessed rear.
The front fenders have been widened and accentuated to give the car a more muscular appearance. New side skirts anchor the car visually to the ground, while distinctive elements like air intakes and volume proportions remain unchanged, preserving the Countach’s unmistakable identity. The rear of the car features a unique design where the body is cut off just above the taillights, exposing more of the rear tires and giving the impression of the car floating on air.
Bridging Two Eras of Countach Design
The Bellezza concept also serves as a bridge between the two distinct eras of the Countach’s design history. The early models were known for their pure, narrow body lines, while later versions featured more exuberant designs with large spoilers and aesthetic bulges. Thorp, one of the designers involved in the project, explained, “I approached this project as an exercise of reduction before addition. I wanted to understand what made the original design iconic, which elements worked in harmony, and which might disrupt the visual flow that the Countach’s lines emit.”
Thorp further elaborated on the Countach’s timeless appeal, stating, “The Lamborghini Countach, in my eyes, represents a rare moment in design history where form, proportion, and character fused into something timeless. The way the surfaces intersect, the sharpness of its geometry, and the confidence of its presence invite you to walk around it again and again, discovering new relationships between lines and shadows.”
A Declaration of Love for Automotive Design
The Bellezza concept is a clear declaration of love and respect for the original Countach design, which made a profound impact on the world of sports cars when it was introduced in 1972. The project preserves the iconic lines of the Countach, with only a few artistic liberties taken, such as the unique rear design. One of the standout features of the Bellezza is the aerodynamic, blade-shaped rearview mirrors that echo the profile of the windshield.
In the year celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura, the Haste studio chose to focus on its successor, the Countach. The Bellezza concept car exists in the space between invention and homage, between art and suggestion. It inspires the possibility of a real-world version, blending the past and the future in a way that honors the legacy of one of the most iconic sports cars of all time.
