iRacing, a leading name in online racing simulation, is making a significant leap forward with the introduction of a career mode. This new feature promises to transform the single-player experience, offering a structured progression system that was previously lacking in the platform. The announcement comes as part of a broader update that includes new cars, track enhancements, and quality-of-life improvements.
The career mode is designed to provide a realistic progression path for racers, with a focus on learning, advancement, and objectives. Unlike the traditional multiplayer focus of iRacing, this mode offers a comprehensive single-player experience that includes seven unique careers, each offering a full game’s worth of content. These careers span various disciplines, from sports car racing to oval racing, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience.
A New Era of Single-Player Racing
The career mode is a significant departure from iRacing’s traditional model, which has always required players to purchase cars and tracks a-la-carte. This new mode, however, offers exclusive access to all content without any additional purchases. This is a major shift, as it addresses one of the most common criticisms of the platform—the need to buy extra content beyond the monthly or annual subscription fee.
The mode is designed to be challenging and realistic. Players will need to meet certain goals to advance, rather than simply winning races. There will also be consequences for poor performance, including the possibility of having to start over if you fail too many times. This adds a layer of realism and stakes to the experience, making it more engaging for serious racers.
Upcoming Cars and Track Enhancements
In addition to the career mode, iRacing is also introducing several new cars and track enhancements. The Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH and two Caterhams—the Academy and 420R—will be added to the platform. The Caterhams, in particular, are notable for their lightweight design and high performance, making them a popular choice among racing enthusiasts.
The Road AmericaMid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Milwaukee Mile tracks have all received fresh laser scans and will be updated for the upcoming season. These updates include new layouts and improved graphics, enhancing the Other tracks, such as Summit Point Raceway and Road Atlanta, have also received comprehensive art upgrades.
Physics Updates and New Features
iRacing is also introducing several physics updates and new features. The Mazda MX-5 and asphalt Sprint Car will receive significant updates, while the Gen 4 Grand National stock car will be added to the existing package. These updates aim to improve the realism and performance of the cars, providing a more immersive experience for players.
Other new features include multi-class safety cars, which will be introduced on certain tracks, and a refreshed Sim UI mechanic. This includes a clearer pit summary window and a damage widget that shows exactly where your car is hurting. New smoke VFX will also make burnouts more voluminous, adding to the
The career mode and new graphics engine are still in development, but the former is nearing completion.
