The Fiat Bravo and Brava platforms served as a creative canvas for a number of Italian carrozzerie and design houses. These firms produced concept cars that tested ideas ranging from extreme aerodynamics to modular, recreational bodies and vehicles designed for social inclusion. While each prototype retained mechanical links to the donor cars, the studio projects introduced distinctive body solutions, flexible interiors and, in several cases, measurable aerodynamic improvements such as low drag coefficients (Cx values).
Below are organized profiles of the most noteworthy projects, grouped by design house and by the technical or social challenge each aimed to address. The descriptions preserve technical figures and core design intents while synthesizing the many variations these ateliers produced.
Italdesign: modular leisure concepts and a low-drag coupé
Giorgetto Giugiaro and Italdesign presented multiple interpretations based on the Bravo/Brava mechanicals. The Formula Legram was conceived as a two-volume, four-seat coupé with flowing, almost shooting-brake proportions and a focus on interior usability while achieving a Cx below 0.25. In parallel, Italdesign developed the Formula 4 a leisure-oriented kit car concept built on the Bravo HGT five-cylinder architecture. The Formula 4 featured exposed single seats for a recreational open-air experience, and by swapping the upper body shell it could be reconfigured into the Formula Hammer a beach-style five-seat layout without conventional doors.
Pininfarina and I.De.A.: compact monovolumes and configurable interiors
Pininfarina focused on compact people-carrier solutions with two related studies. The Song proposed a rounded, 4.15-meter monovolume with raised ground clearance and interchangeable protective side panels made from recycled materials, targeting off-road use and markets with challenging infrastructure. Its counterpart, the Sing retained the same shell but adopted a lowered road setup for purely urban and highway use. Together, they anticipated the mainstream success of compact MPVs.
The I.De.A. Institute produced the Vuscia a name nodding to the founder’s Ligurian roots. The project reframed the station wagon as a compact people-mover with a sporty, coupe-like silhouette. Architecturally, the Vuscia used standard Fiat components to enable rapid industrial translation while offering an interior that could be reconfigured between two and six seats prioritizing adaptability over strict segment definitions.
Sporty extremes, aerodynamic experiments and social design from Bertone to Boneschi
Bertone created the Enduro a hybrid between a sports coupé and a robust off-roader built in fiberglass. Its high beltline, large wheels and raised ride height framed two variants: a street-oriented “Strada” and a competition-ready “Raid” version using heavily modified mechanicals inspired by the Integrale lineage, aimed at demanding endurance events. This dual-purpose approach foreshadowed the SUV trend that later dominated the market.
Zagato produced the Bravo Bis a muscular coupé-crossover built on the principle of an affordable but emotive “world car.” Distinguished by a truncated, sculpted tail that evokes earlier Zagato coachwork, the proposal married sporty dynamics with the ability to cope with deteriorated roads, blending heritage cues—such as a compact, purposeful rear—into a modern compact platform.
Giannini concentrated on active aerodynamic control with the Windsurf. Developed extensively in a wind tunnel, the car used a dedicated onboard computer to adjust spoilers and wings dynamically with speed, reducing turbulence and tuning balance; the package included widened tracks (+9 cm) and achieved a recorded Cx of about 0.24. Meanwhile, Leonardo Fioravanti’s Flair applied fluid dynamics to a 2+2 coupé form built on Bravo HGT underpinnings, using aeronautical devices such as rear aerobrakes that deploy under braking and delivering an outstanding Cx of 0.18.
Centro Stile Fiat in collaboration with Maggiora created the Armadillo a five-seat fiberglass concept notable for an unusual seating layout—three forward seats and two rear—and a relentless focus on aerodynamic efficiency, achieving a headline Cx of 0.17. Maggiora also produced a high-performance interpretation of the Bravo HGT as a grand touring prototype, the Bravo 2400 HGT Granturismo powered by a 2.4-liter five-cylinder producing 185 CV fitted with enlarged wheelarches, aggressive aero cues and racing-style interior trim.
On the social design front, Boneschi offered the Taxi Help a Brava-based vehicle engineered to assist passengers with reduced mobility: the concept incorporated a large glazed rear volume and an electro-hydraulic rear ramp that lowers to pavement level to facilitate wheelchair boarding. Finally, Coggiola reinterpreted the Brava as the Sentiero a five-door compact pickup that preserved the donor car’s five-seat cabin and wheelbase while extending the rear floor by approximately 30 cm to create a practical open cargo area, paired with a raised ride height and larger tires for mixed work-and-leisure use.
Collectively, these coachbuilt projects demonstrate how the same mechanical base can be a springboard for diverse design experiments: from low-drag, aero-optimized coupés to modular leisure cars and socially focused urban transport. Each study preserved essential technical links to the donor platform while pushing the boundaries of packaging, aerodynamics and user-centered features.
