The Jeep Recon, an upcoming electric crossover, has received a quiet yet significant update. The vehicle now boasts an additional 20 hp though its range has seen a slight reduction. Meanwhile, some dealers have started offering discounts on the model, even before its official launch.
This news comes on the heels of the Jeep Wagoneer S, which has struggled to find buyers despite its high price tag. The Wagoneer S, which starts at $65,000 has seen massive discounts, with one model originally priced at $67,590 now listed for $40,855. This represents a savings of $26,735 including an $855 documentation fee.
Jeep Recon’s Power and Range Updates
Jeep has subtly revised the performance specifications for the Recon. Initially introduced in 2026 with a rating of 650 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque, the company has now increased the output to 670 hp. This enhancement allows the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 112 mph.
However, the range has been adjusted. Originally estimated at 250 miles it has been lowered to a maximum of 230 miles. Jeep now lists the range as 222 miles for the Recon Moab and 240 miles for the Overland trim, which will arrive after the initial launch.
Dealer Discounts on the Jeep Recon
Despite the Recon’s hefty price tag, starting at $65,000 before a $1,995 destination fee, some dealers are already offering discounts. This move suggests concerns about the model’s reception, given the struggles with the Wagoneer S.
For instance, Jeff Wyler Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Columbus is offering a $720 discount on their Recon Moab. Similarly, Van Nuys Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in California has a $500 discount on their Moab, reducing the $67,590 MSRP to $67,090 before additional fees.
Bomnin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Doral also has a $500 discount on their incoming Recon. However, this savings is offset by significant fees, including a $999 dealer fee and a $499 electronic fee.
Most other vehicles listed online are priced at MSRP, but it’s still early to draw conclusions as the crossover hasn’t launched yet.
The Jeep Recon in the Competitive Landscape
The Recon’s price puts it in a challenging position, especially with the upcoming Rivian R2 in the same segment. The Rivian R2 Performance starts at $57,990 with a more affordable Premium version beginning at $53,990 later this year.
While the Recon’s additional horsepower is a positive change, the range reduction and high price point may pose challenges. The early discounts from dealers indicate a cautious approach, possibly to avoid repeating the Wagoneer S’s struggles.
