The FIM and MotoGP have released a provisional calendar for the 2027 season, marking the start of a new technical era. Twenty-two Grand Prix will be contested from March to November, spanning five continents and featuring two brand-new venues that promise fresh challenges for riders and fans alike.
New venues expand MotoGP’s global footprint
South America secures its fourth stop with the inclusion of Buenos Aires. The Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez will host the fourth round, reinforcing MotoGP’s commitment to the region after recent events in Brazil and Goiânia. Meanwhile, Australia makes a historic debut on the street-circuit layout in South Australia. The Adelaide Street Circuit will stage the penultimate Grand Prix, offering a city-center race that blends high-speed sections with tight urban corners, a first for the premier class.
Both additions are subject to final approval: Buenos Aires awaits homologation, while Adelaide’s inclusion depends on contractual finalisation. Their presence not only diversifies the geographic spread but also introduces distinct track characteristics that could influence championship dynamics, especially for riders adept at adapting to new layouts.
Full provisional schedule by month and location
The season kicks off in early March on the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, followed by a night-race in Qatar at Lusail. April sees a swing to South America with Brazil’s Autodromo Internacional Ayrton Senna and the Argentine round in Buenos Aires. The United States hosts the Circuit of the Americas in Texas before the series moves to Europe for a classic block of events.
European staples include Spain’s Jerez-Angel Nieto France’s Le Mans Italy’s Mugello and Barcelona-Catalunya the Dutch TT Circuit Assen Germany’s Sachsenring and the Czech Republic’s Brno. The British Silverstone Circuit and Austria’s Red Bull Ring round out the summer swing, while September brings San Marino at Misano and Spain’s MotorLand Aragón. Early October places the Portuguese Algarve round before the Asian finale in Japan’s Mobility Resort Motegi Malaysia’s Sepang and Indonesia’s Mandalika. The season concludes with Adelaide and the traditional Valencia finale at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
All dates remain provisional; the calendar lists each weekend as a three-day event (Friday–Sunday) with practice, qualifying and race sessions. Organisers have flagged two entries with asterisks: the Argentine round (*) pending homologation and the Texas round (**) subject to contract renewal.
Key notes on contracts and homologation
While the outline is solid, two items still require confirmation. The Argentine venue must satisfy the FIM’s safety and technical standards before a final homologation can be granted. This process involves rigorous track inspection, barrier assessment and emergency-response planning. Failure to meet any criterion could delay or cancel the race, though organisers are optimistic given recent upgrades to the circuit.
Conversely, the Circuit of the Americas appears under a “subject to contract” note, indicating that negotiations on commercial terms, hosting fees and calendar placement are ongoing. Historically, such clauses have been resolved well before the start of the season, but they remind teams and fans that the schedule is still subject to minor adjustments.
Riders will need to master a blend of classic high-speed corners and novel street-circuit challenges, while manufacturers will test new technical packages across a wider range of climates and surfaces than ever before.
