The RAFA Racing Team made history at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a remarkable double victory. The team secured their first-ever IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge win and extended their IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge GSX winning streak to seven consecutive victories.
This historic achievement was marked by strategic brilliance and exceptional driving, showcasing the team’s growing prowess in the competitive world of sports car racing.
Breaking New Ground in the Michelin Pilot Challenge
The No. 12 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 driven by Kiko Porto and Varun Choksey delivered the breakthrough victory in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. The win came after a perfectly executed fuel strategy during the two-hour Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120.
Choksey started the race, completing the opening 21 laps before handing the car to Porto. During the third full-course caution on Lap 25, the team decided to top off the Toyota with fuel while several rivals remained on track. As the final round of pit stops unfolded, Porto inherited the race lead.
Initially aiming to finish without another stop, the team ultimately called Porto to pit for a brief splash of fuel with less than 15 minutes remaining. Having built an advantage of over 40 seconds, Porto rejoined with enough of a buffer to retain the lead and drive to victory by 9.881 seconds.
Porto expressed his relief and joy, stating, “This is definitely a huge relief. We knew we had the pace all season, but little mistakes here and there meant we hadn’t been able to capitalize.” He praised the team’s effort and the car’s performance, highlighting the difficulty of saving fuel at a high-speed track.
Choksey commended Porto’s pace and the team’s strategy, noting that he had complete faith in Porto and the rest of the team. The victory marked a long-awaited reward for the team, which had shown race-winning pace throughout the season.
Workman’s Record-Breaking Seventh Consecutive GSX Win
Earlier in the day, Westin Workman added another milestone to his remarkable VP Racing SportsCar Challenge season. Driving the No. 8 RAFA Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 Workman claimed his seventh consecutive GSX victory, establishing a new series record for the most consecutive wins while remaining unbeaten through the opening seven races of the season.
The victory also extended RAFA Racing Team’s remarkable qualifying record in the championship. Since entering the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge in 2026, the team has claimed pole position in all 19 races it has contested.
Workman described the race as going “really well,” praising the team for providing a car that was strong on both short and long runs. He emphasized his consistent effort, stating, “I give 100 percent every time I’m out there on the track, so today was just like any other race. Everything came together.”
Workman will have the opportunity to extend his record in the second VP Racing SportsCar Challenge race, where victory would increase his streak to eight consecutive GSX wins.
The Chevrolet Grand Prix: A Spotlight on LMP2 and GTD PRO
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship headed north for its annual visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and the Chevrolet Grand Prix. This iconic road course, known for its dramatic elevation changes and high-speed turns, showcases the talents of the championship’s competitors and the performance of its exotic prototypes and GTs.
With the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class on holiday, the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) category took center stage. The ORECA LMP2 07’s nimble handling, downforce, and potent Gibson V8 make it perfectly suited to the roller coaster ride of CTMP’s swoops and curves.
The GTD PRO competition also drew attention, with a fierce title race seeing the top three teams and their drivers separated by less than 100 points. The No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO led the standings, followed closely by the No. 3 and No. 4 Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs.
Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports aimed to rebound from disappointing results in Detroit and Watkins Glen. Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, last year’s GTD PRO champs, hoped to leverage their experience at CTMP to regain the points lead.
Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg, driving the sister No. 4 Corvette, sought Milner emphasized the need for clean execution to win the championship, stating, “We need to buckle down, make sure that we are doing everything right on all our sides.”
The CTMP crowd also had eyes on IMSA’s Canadian contingent, including Roman De Angelis, Orey Fidani, and Robert Wickens. Wickens, a two-time winner at CTMP in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, hoped for more good things this weekend after a challenging season.
RAFA Racing Team’s successful Saturday was rounded out by Rafael Martinez, who finished fourth in the GSX Bronze class aboard the No. 68 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Martinez expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, highlighting the hard work and commitment that had built the team’s success.
