The 2025 Ram 2500 Power Wagon excels in its niche, exclusively powered by a robust yet somewhat antiquated 6.4-liter V-8 engine, delivering 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. Although effective, this engine lacks the modernity and refinement of Ford’s 7.3-liter Godzilla V-8.
Performance and capabilities
Unlike its competitors, the Power Wagon does not currently offer a turbodiesel engine option, which gives the Rebel HD an advantage. The Rebel HD begins with the gas V-8 but offers a $12,595 upgrade to a powerful 6.7-liter Cummins inline-6 turbodiesel. This engine achieves an impressive torque rating of 1,075 lb-ft, making it well-suited for heavy-duty tasks. While it outperforms the Chem Silverado’s 975 lb-ft, it still lags behind Ford’s 1,200 lb-ft.
Significant enhancements have been made to the turbodiesel for 2025, including a new turbocharger and intake manifold, as well as a transition to an 8-speed automatic transmission. These updates improve acceleration and maintenance, allowing the truck to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds, an improvement from 8.0 seconds in previous models.

Despite the technical challenges associated with integrating it into the Power Wagon’s front suspension and oil pan, the demand is acknowledged.
Ride quality and driving experience
While both models exhibit unique characteristics, their ride quality varies significantly. The Power Wagon prioritizes comfort, equipped with soft Bilstein off-road shocks that provide a smooth ride over rugged terrain. In contrast, the Rebel HD’s firmer suspension setup emphasizes towing and hauling capabilities, resulting in a stiffer ride. The Rebel can tow up to 17,130 pounds and manage a payload of 3,320 pounds, whereas the turbodiesel variant increases towing capacity to 19,890 pounds.
Conversely, the Power Wagon’s towing capacity is capped at 10,530 pounds, as its design focuses on off-road performance rather than heavy hauling. This approach allows the Power Wagon to deliver superior ride quality, particularly in challenging environments.
During an off-roading excursion in Nevada’s Old Kingman Highway Recreational area, the differences between the two trucks became evident. The Rebel faced challenges with wheel spin due to its absence of an electronic disconnecting front sway bar, while the Power Wagon easily maintained traction, underscoring its superior off-road capabilities.

The 2025 Ram lineup has received a design refresh, featuring new grilles and headlights that enhance its commanding presence. Although the headlights may appear larger due to their new configuration, the updated grilles contribute significantly to a bolder aesthetic.
