The 2025 Vintage Cup Series took center stage over the weekend of June 21-22 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, as part of the acclaimed AHRMA National Roadracing Series presented by Motobilia. This annual event, which shines a spotlight on a dazzling array of classic motorcycles—especially the revered 500 Premier class—drew a vibrant mix of competitors and an enthusiastic crowd. The weekend was packed with exhilarating races, unexpected twists, and standout performances, all serving as a testament to the lasting appeal of vintage motorcycle racing.
Race Highlights and Standout Performances
The 500 Premier class was a showcase of iconic machines, including the legendary 500cc Manx Norton and the formidable BSA Goldstar. On Saturday, Tim Joyce took the reins on a meticulously prepared 1968 Seeley G50, which belongs to John Turner, and dominated from the get-go. He held a commanding lead throughout, ultimately crossing the finish line first, closely followed by Kevin Dinsmoor on a classic 1962 BMW R-50 and Brian Larrabure on a striking 1962 Norton Manx.
Day two saw Joyce once again display his prowess, nailing the hole shot right off the bat. However, Larrabure, now riding a 1968 NYC Norton Seeley G50, brought fierce competition alongside Dinsmoor and Dave Roper on his vintage 1970 Harley-Davidson ERTT. The race was a thrilling contest, with Dinsmoor overtaking Larrabure early on. Yet, Joyce’s tenacity prevailed, as he regained the lead in the final lap, clinching a well-deserved victory for the weekend.
The Spirit of Vintage Racing
But the allure of the Vintage Cup Series extends far beyond the races. It embodies a sense of camaraderie and nostalgia that truly defines the AHRMA community. Kenny Cummings from NYC Norton praised the riders and volunteers for their unwavering commitment and enthusiasm throughout the event, highlighting the unique tapestry that binds the AHRMA family. Mark Heckles, in a heartfelt moment, dusted off his father’s original 1959 Manx Norton for the occasion, perfectly illustrating the emotional connections between riders and their beloved machines.
The atmosphere during the races was nothing short of electric, with fans passionately cheering for their favorite competitors while marveling at the history and craftsmanship of these magnificent motorcycles. The Vintage Cup serves as both a competitive platform and a jubilant celebration of the rich heritage of motorcycle racing.
Commitment to Safety and Future Events
As AHRMA remains dedicated to fostering safe racing environments, the organization proudly reported successful fundraising efforts that bolstered the Airfence program, aimed at enhancing safety measures across race events. This weekend at NJMP raised $1,000 in donations, a clear reflection of the community’s commitment to both competition and rider safety.
Looking ahead, AHRMA is gearing up for its next thrilling event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL, from August 1-3. Expect a diverse gathering of classic racing enthusiasts eager to relive the excitement. As the season unfolds, the anticipation for more vintage racing action continues to grow, promising even more heart-pounding moments on the track.
