Showtime Repco 933: front-engine 911 with 1,200 hp LSX V8

A classic 911 gets a massive V8 swap and ends up with 1,200 horsepower and a drift‑focused makeover.

Showtime Repco 933: front-engine 911 with 1,200 hp LSX V8

The Porsche 911 has long been celebrated for its rear-mounted flat-six, razor-sharp handling and timeless silhouette. Australian fabricator Gary Reid decided to shatter that convention by inserting a front-mounted American powerhouse into a 996-generation chassis, creating what he calls the Showtime Repco 933. The project blends raw performance with meticulous engineering, resulting in a machine that looks as daring as it sounds.

Engine transformation and power output

At the heart of the build lies a 7.0-liter LSX V8 sourced from General Motors, equipped with a pair of twin-turbo Turbosmart units. The forced-induction setup propels the car beyond the 1,200 hp mark and generates roughly 1,100 lb-ft of torque. To accommodate the massive block, Reid’s team fabricated a new firewall, floor, and transmission tunnel, and cut a sizable aperture in the hood for the dramatic flame-throwing exhaust that shoots straight out of the front. The engine’s displacement more than doubles the original flat-six, fundamentally altering the 911’s character while preserving its iconic silhouette.

Transmission, chassis and interior upgrades

No standard Porsche gearbox could survive the onslaught of a twin-turbo V8, so the project incorporates a Bentley eight-speed automatic modified for sequential shifting. A custom carbon-fiber shifter sits in a reinforced tunnel, and a hydraulic rear handbrake gives the car drift-ready precision. Under the skin, a heavy-duty cooling system circulates coolant through the passenger compartment to keep temperatures in check during prolonged high-performance runs. Inside, the cockpit has been completely redone: a bespoke dashboard features a modern infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a multi-function Haltech steering wheel that lets the driver tweak engine maps and drive modes on the fly. Lightweight carbon-fiber Recaro seats complete the driver-focused interior.

Exterior aerodynamics and wheel package

The exterior received an all-carbon-fiber body kit, including a flared front arch, a wide-body hood, and a massive rear wing capped with a Le Mans-inspired shark fin. These elements not only enhance visual aggression but also provide downforce for high-speed stability. Custom Rotiform wheels measure 18×9.5 inches at the front and 18×10 inches at the rear, wrapped in high-performance tires that translate the engine’s output to the pavement with confidence. The combination of aerodynamic aids and aggressive grip ensures the car can launch from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 2.8 seconds and exceed 190 mph on a straight line.

While the Showtime Repco 933 could easily be mistaken for a track-only monster, Reid specifically engineered it for drift excursions. The hydraulic handbrake, rear-wheel-only power delivery, and finely tuned suspension allow controlled oversteer, turning a legendary sports car into a formidable sideways performer. In short, this front-engine 911 demonstrates that extreme displacement, modern turbo technology, and thoughtful engineering can coexist within a classic platform, delivering a thrilling blend of heritage and horsepower.
