Top-selling cars, trucks and SUVs in Q3 2026 and the brands that slipped

The United States automotive landscape entered the autumn months with a mixed bag of results. While some nameplates celebrated double-digit growth, others grappled with sharp declines amid high fuel prices and an uneven electric-vehicle rollout. Quarterly sales figures give a clear snapshot of consumer preferences, dealer inventory strategies, and the lingering impact of economic headwinds.

Below we break down the most noteworthy performers and the segments that faltered, using the latest data released by manufacturers and industry analysts.

Major winners in Q3 2026

Kia set a new quarterly record, moving 236,659 units – an 8% year-over-year rise driven primarily by its SUV lineup. The refreshed Seltos topped the surge with a 70% jump to 25,703 units, while the SorentoTelluride and Sportage posted gains of 21%, 18% and 8% respectively. Even the Carnival minivan posted a 19% uplift, and the sedan twins K4 and K5 climbed 17% and 13%.

Across the corporate family, Hyundai also posted a modest 3% increase, largely thanks to the Tucson SUV, which rose 23% to 64,075 units. Sedans Elantra and Sonata added 18% and 34% respectively, reinforcing the brand’s balanced portfolio.

In the performance segment, the Chevrolet Corvette enjoyed a 29% jump to 6,585 units, pushing its cumulative YTD total past the 20,000-unit mark. Meanwhile, Ram celebrated a headline-making 73% surge for the 1500 delivering 76,650 trucks and taking its year-to-date volume to over 202,000 – a 41% increase.

Luxury and premium buyers also showed enthusiasm. The BMW 3-Series posted a 46% rise to 11,256 units, positioning it as BMW’s third-best seller of the year. Infiniti posted its strongest quarter since 2020, climbing 20.4% and delivering its best Q3 performance of the millennium.

Major losers in Q3 2026

Cadillac endured a harsh 30% decline in Q3, with its electric-SUV lineup suffering the most – the Lyriq fell 51%, Vistiq 34%, and the Escalade IQ 29%. Even the gasoline-powered Escalade slipped 15%, highlighting the brand’s broader challenges in both EV and traditional segments.

Electric models from several manufacturers registered steep drops. Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 fell 53% and 47% respectively, while Kia’s EV6 slid 57% and the EV9 28% in the quarter. Genesis struggled as well, with the GV60 down 53% YTD and the Electrified GV70 shedding 87%.

General Motors’ electric offerings were hit hard: the Chevrolet Equinox EV plunged 92% to just 1,905 units, the Blazer EV fell 84% to 1,261, and the Silverado EV dropped 58%. The revived Bolt managed only 8,090 units for the entire year.

Ford recorded a 6% Q3 decline, with The iconic F-150 slipped 2%, while the discontinued Escape fell 75% YTD. The Mustang Mach-E suffered a 72% quarterly drop, selling just 5,574 units.

Stellantis’ Jeep brand fell 20% in the quarter, dragging its YTD performance down 8%. The Compass fell 62%, while both the Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer slipped 30%. Its electric Wagoneer S was especially hard hit, down 96% with only 146 units sold.

Other struggling names included Fiat which moved just 54 cars (mostly the 500e) in Q3, a 76% annual decline, and Alfa Romeo down 65% with only 569 units sold, led by the Stelvio crossover.

While the market shows pockets of growth, the data underscores a broader unevenness: traditional SUVs and trucks continue to dominate, whereas many EV models are still searching for a stable foothold. Analysts suggest that high fuel prices are nudging buyers toward efficient hybrids, while the EV segment may need more attractive pricing or broader model availability to reverse the current slide.
