Participating in a motorcycle training day at the California Superbike School presents a valuable opportunity to refine your riding skills. Understanding the registration process, necessary paperwork, and safety requirements prior to your arrival at the track is essential for an enjoyable experience. This guide will assist you in navigating everything from preparing your motorcycle to choosing appropriate attire.
Registration generally opens at 7:00 AM at most tracks; however, locations such as Barber Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway start as early as 6:30 AM. If attending a class in November, keep in mind that the early start time is due to shorter daylight hours. Timeliness is crucial; late arrival may result in losing your reserved spot.
Necessary documentation and bike readiness
Before traveling to the track, ensure that you have completed and returned the Terms and Conditions and Release of Liability forms. If you have not mailed the originals, send them immediately to California Superbike School, 940 N. San Fernando Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90065. Should time be limited, you can scan and email the completed forms to [email protected] or fax them to (323) 227-7877. It is advisable to bring the original documents with you on the day of the event.
Your motorcycle must be in excellent condition. Verify that it has good tires with at least 90% tread, functioning brakes, and no fluid leaks. Additionally, arrive with a full tank of gas to avoid interruptions during training. If your motorcycle has a smaller fuel tank, consider bringing extra fuel to prevent running low.
Safety gear requirements
For participants attending a single-day school, the following safety gear is mandatory: a complete set of leathers (two-piece suits must zip together), a Snell, DOT, or ECE approved helmet, riding boots that cover the ankles, and full-fingered gloves. Although a back protector and ear plugs are not required, they are highly recommended for additional safety and comfort.
For those enrolled in a two-day camp, half camp, or CodeRACE, all necessary gear will be provided. However, participants may opt to bring their own equipment as long as it meets specified requirements. Additionally, check the weather forecast prior to your training day and dress accordingly.
Food and refreshments
On your training day, the California Superbike School offers a continental breakfast and lunch for participants at a nominal fee of $20. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own lunch. Throughout the day, coffee, tea, snacks, and fruit will be available to keep you energized.
For those attending two-day camps or half camps, a full breakfast featuring eggs, sausages, fruit, and cereals will be provided, along with lunch and ongoing refreshments to ensure you remain well-fed and ready to learn.
Off-track specialty bike drills
Depending on your training level, off-track specialty bike drills may be available, weather permitting. These include the Steering Drill for Level 1, the Lean Bike for Level 2, and the Slide Bike for Level 4. Participants in two-day camps or half camps can choose from any of these drills, including the Brake Bike.
Please note that not all tracks have the necessary space for every specialty bike drill, so it is advisable to check the Track Specific Data for availability at your chosen location. Additionally, ensure you possess some riding experience beforehand, as the school does not provide training for first-time riders.
