The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in San Marino witnessed a thrilling conclusion to the Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round of the FIM Supersport World Championship on Sunday afternoon. Albert Arenasriding for the AS BLU CRU Racing Team on his Yamaha YZF-R9secured a decisive victory in the 18-lap Race 2, finishing 1.976 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

Arenas’ triumph not only solidified his position as the championship leader but also marked his third win of the rookie season. The Spanish rider’s performance was nothing short of stellar, showcasing his prowess and consistency on the track.

Podium Finishes and Notable Performances

Tom Booth-Amos of the PTR Triumph Factory Racing team claimed the second position on his Triumph Street Triple 765 RSfinishing 1.184 seconds behind Arenas. Booth-Amos’ consistent pace and strategic overtakes made him a formidable contender throughout the race.

Aldi Mahendra, Arenas’ teammate from the AS BLU CRU Racing Teamcompleted the podium in third place. Mahendra’s impressive ride earned him and his country their second WorldSSP podium in his sophomore season, demonstrating his growing skill and competitiveness in the championship.

Other notable performances included Jaume Masia of Orelac Racing Verdnatura on his Ducati Panigale V2who crossed the finish line in fourth place, and Jeremy Alcoba of the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team on his Kawasaki ZX-6R 636who secured fifth place. Alcoba’s remarkable recovery from 19th position to fifth highlighted his determination and racing acumen.

Arenas’ Dominance and Championship Standings

Arenas’ victory at Misano was a testament to his dominance in the championship. Leading every lap of the race, he increased his championship lead to 56 points, with a total of 251 points. Valentin Debise of the EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing team is now in second place with 195 points, while Masia holds third place with 179 points.

The race saw intense competition and strategic maneuvers. Arenas and Debise led the race into the opening corner, with Mahendra closely following. Mahendra quickly overtook Debise by the end of the first lap, setting the stage for a thrilling battle for the podium positions. Booth-Amos made a significant move past Debise on Lap 4 and continued to chip away at the gap to the lead pair, ultimately overtaking Mahendra for second place on Lap 8.

The championship standings reflect the fierce competition within the World Supersport field. With Arenas extending his lead, the battle for the title remains wide open, promising more exciting races ahead.

The World Supersport field will reconvene on July 10th at Donington Park for the next round of the championship.
