Allgaier tops standings after Martinsville shake-up in NASCAR O’Reilly series

Justin Allgaier storms back to the lead as Martinsville chaos opens the door for a five‑driver showdown at Homestead.

Allgaier tops standings after Martinsville shake-up in NASCAR O’Reilly series

The 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series entered its final weekend with the championship picture dramatically altered. Justin allgaier, who had clinched the regular-season crown with a 229-point margin, found himself behind the pack after the first two playoff stops, only to leap back into first place following the October 31 event at Martinsville Speedway.

Playoff format and early-season shifts

Under the series’ newest postseason structure, the regular-season champion is guaranteed a 25-point cushion at the start of the nine-race Chase, regardless of the actual points gap at the end of the regular season. Allgaier secured that advantage after a dominant season, but the reset meant his lead could evaporate quickly.

Sheldon Creed, driving for Haas Factory Team, seized the early playoff lead at Gateway after finishing ahead of Allgaier, despite trailing by 276 points in the regular-season tally. The lead changed hands again when Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love captured it at Phoenix, propelling him into the championship forefront with a modest margin over his rivals.

Martinsville race flips the leaderboard

Saturday’s Hard Rock Bet 300 at the half-mile Martinsville oval turned the standings upside-down. Carson Kvapil captured victory, leading 121 laps and finishing ahead of Allgaier by less than half a second. Allgaier, however, earned valuable points by winning the opening stage and finishing second overall, while Love suffered a catastrophic brake failure on lap 31, crashing into the wall and ending the race in 30th place, nine laps down.

Allgaier’s runner-up finish transformed a 19-point deficit into a 22-point lead over Love. Behind them, Hendrick Motorsports’ Corey Day sits just one point shy of Love, while Kvapil trails Allgaier by 31 points. Creed remains in contention, though he has slipped to fifth place, 42 points off the top.

Updated standings after Martinsville illustrate the tight race:

Justin Allgaier – 2,436 pts
Jesse Love – 2,414 pts (-22)
Corey Day – 2,413 pts (-23)
Carson Kvapil – 2,405 pts (-31)
Sheldon Creed – 2,394 pts (-42)

Road to Homestead – final showdown

The championship will be decided at Homestead-miami speedway on Saturday, Nov. 7. The event kicks off at 5:00 p.m. ET on The CW, with radio coverage from MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Allgaier heads into the finale with the narrowest advantage, but the margin leaves little room for error.

Love will look to recover from his Martinsville disaster, Day enters the race bolstered by a strong third-place finish, and Kvapil carries momentum from his win. Creed, despite the biggest points gap among the five, remains mathematically eligible, keeping the final race a genuine five-driver duel.

Fans can catch the climax live via streaming platforms such as FuboTV, which offers a free trial for the Homestead showdown. With the championship hanging in the balance, the stage is set for one of the most suspenseful conclusions in recent nascar history.
