Exciting highlights from the inaugural Canadian MiniSBK event

The Canadian MiniSBK tour has officially launched, showcasing thrilling races and rising stars in motorsport.

The Canadian MiniSBK tour made its exciting debut alongside the Mission MotoAmerica series at Shannonville Motorsport Park on June 14. The atmosphere was electric, buzzing with the thrill of competition and the promise of emerging talents. This inaugural event featured a range of classes, including Canadian Moto1 and Moto4, which drew in fans and racers alike, setting the stage for an exhilarating series ahead.

The Competition Unfolds

In the Moto1 class, 14-year-old Stefan Tanasic took the top spot after starting from pole position, showcasing impressive skills on his bright yellow Ohvale GP2 190. He sped past his father, Aleks, who finished a commendable second on a Kawasaki KLX110 after a strong qualifying run on his YCF SM 155. Unfortunately, the competition felt the absence of Jager Stockill, a promising racer who recently shone at the May opener in Shannonville. He was tied up with a SuperMoto event in Quebec, which kept him from joining the fray this time around.

Tanasic’s performance was nothing short of remarkable. Not only did he clinch victory, but he also clocked the fastest lap of the day at an impressive 53.42 seconds over 14 laps. His father followed with a time of 55.85 seconds, while Will Brown, riding an Ohvale GPO 160, completed the top three after a thrilling showdown with Richard Van der Pryt on a Honda Grom. Wasn’t that a race to remember?

Emerging Talents in Moto4

The Moto4 class delivered a dose of excitement as well, with Everly Landry snatching her first win on a Honda 50. Her victory was particularly special as she edged out Natalia Tanasic, adding a captivating twist to the narrative—both are related to the top racers in the Moto1 class. It’s not every day you see such spirited competition between two eight-year-olds, and they certainly captivated the audience!

This event showcased the immense potential for growth in youth motorsport across Canada. These young riders not only demonstrated their skills but also ignited a competitive spirit that bodes well for the future of motorsport in the region. Aren’t we lucky to witness the beginnings of their journeys?

What Lies Ahead for the Canadian MiniSBK Tour

Looking ahead, the Canadian Qualifying Series for the World Finals is just around the corner, kicking off on July 24 and 25 with a night race at the Go-Kart track in Brechin, ON, near Orillia. This four-event series will give racers a platform to showcase their talent and secure their spots for the World Finals, ramping up the excitement on the MiniSBK calendar.

With talented young riders like Tanasic and Landry in the mix, the upcoming season promises to be filled with engaging competition and growth within the motorsport community. The groundwork laid at Shannonville has fans and participants eagerly anticipating what’s next, as we continue to foster a love for racing among the next generation. Are you ready for the ride?
