Geely E2 2026 Review: Affordable Electric Compact Car for European Roads

Geely, the Chinese automotive giant behind brands like Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, is making a significant push into the European market with its latest offering, the Geely E2 2026. This electric compact car is poised to compete with some of the most popular models in its class, thanks to its attractive price point and well-rounded features.

The E2 is not just another electric vehicle; it represents Geely’s strategic move to strengthen its presence in Europe. With a starting price of just €20,900, the E2 is designed to appeal to budget-conscious consumers who are not willing to compromise on quality or style.

The E2’s Competitive Edge

The E2 stands out in the crowded electric compact car segment for several reasons. Firstly, its dimensions make it a practical choice for urban and suburban driving. At 4.13 meters long, it offers more interior space than rivals like the Dacia Spring (3.70 m) and the Leapmotor T03 (3.62 m). This extra space translates into a more comfortable ride and a more substantial presence on the road.

In terms of design, the E2 adopts a clean, modern aesthetic with well-balanced proportions. This sets it apart from more dynamically styled competitors like the BYD Dolphin Surf and the crossover-inspired Citroën e-C3. The E2’s traditional five-door design is both practical and appealing, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of drivers.

Practicality and Storage

One of the E2’s standout features is its generous storage capacity. With a baggage capacity of 375 liters, it outperforms many of its rivals, including the BYD Dolphin Surf (308 liters) and the Citroën e-C3 (310 liters). Additionally, the E2 comes with a frunk (front trunk) that offers an extra 70 liters of storage space, a feature that is not commonly found in this price range.

Performance and Powertrain

The Geely E2 offers two distinct powertrain configurations to cater to different driving needs. The Pro version comes with an 82 CV motor powered by a 35.35 kWh LFP battery, delivering an impressive WLTP range of 252 km. For those seeking more power and range, the Max and Ultra versions feature a 116 CV motor and a larger 47.14 kWh battery, extending the range to 345 km.

Notably, the E2 is equipped with rear-wheel drive a rarity in this price segment where most competitors opt for front-wheel drive. This design choice enhances the E2’s handling and driving dynamics, making it a more engaging car to drive.

The E2 supports both AC charging (up to 6.6 kW) and DC fast charging (up to 70 kW), ensuring that drivers can recharge their vehicles quickly and conveniently. This flexibility is a significant advantage, especially for those who rely on their cars for daily commuting and longer trips.

Comparing the Competition

When compared to its rivals, the E2 holds its own in several key areas. The Leapmotor T03 for instance, offers a more powerful 95 CV motor but falls short in terms of range and storage capacity. The Dacia Spring while more affordable, has a smaller battery and a shorter range. The BYD Dolphin Surf and Citroën e-C3 offer competitive ranges but are less spacious and practical than the E2.

The Ford Puma Gen-E on the other hand, is a more premium offering with a higher price tag. It boasts a more powerful motor and a longer range but lacks the E2’s combination of affordability and practicality.

Pricing and Value

One of the E2’s most compelling attributes is its competitive pricing. Starting at just €20,900 for the Pro version, it undercuts many of its rivals, including the Leapmotor T03 (€18,900), Dacia Spring (€17,900), BYD Dolphin Surf (€19,790), and Citroën e-C3 (€20,490). The top-of-the-line Ultra version, priced at €24,900, offers a rich array of features, including 540° cameras, an electric tailgate, wireless charging, and alloy wheels.

Given its combination of affordability, practicality, and performance, the Geely E2 represents excellent value for money. It is a car that is designed to appeal to a broad range of buyers, from first-time electric vehicle owners to those looking for a reliable and efficient daily driver.

The E2’s success in the European market will depend on its ability to compete with established rivals and attract buyers with its unique blend of features and pricing. With its impressive specifications and competitive price point, the Geely E2 is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the electric compact car segment.
