Highlights from the inaugural Canadian National FIM Motul MiniGP Series event

The Canadian National FIM Motul MiniGP Series launched its season in Lombardy, showcasing intense competition among young racers.

The Canadian National FIM Motul MiniGP Series finally revved into action at Lombardy Raceway Motorsports Park on August 23. After a flood-related delay pushed back the original opener in Brechin, the excitement was palpable as young racing talents took to the track, marking a thrilling start to the motorsports season in Canada.

Overview of the Opening Event

Lombardy Raceway has proudly served as the home track for MiniSBK racing in Canada for the last four seasons, making it an ideal venue for this exhilarating series. Measuring 800 meters, the track features ten turns in a counterclockwise layout, setting the stage for some intense competition. Fans were eager to witness the anticipated rivalry between Alberta’s Ethan Reardon and Ontario’s Jager Stockill, a battle that unfolded dramatically, with Stockill clinching victory in two out of three races despite some formidable challenges.

In the first race, 12-year-old Stockill kept a close eye on 10-year-old Reardon before executing a bold maneuver at the turn one “Bus Stop” section. This decisive moment allowed Stockill to forge ahead, ultimately finishing six seconds clear of Reardon, who took home the second spot. Stfan Tanasic also showcased his skills, rounding out the podium with a commendable third-place finish. Notably, Stockill set a new lap record at an impressive 46.92 seconds, with Reardon hot on his heels at 47.03 seconds. Isn’t it amazing to see such young talent making waves on the racetrack?

Race Highlights and Competitive Spirit

The second race carried on with a theme of jump starts, as Stockill got a bit too eager and faced penalties along with his fellow competitors. This turn of events opened the door for Reardon to seize the lead and fend off Stockill’s relentless efforts to catch up. The finish was nail-bitingly close, with Stockill finishing just 0.13 seconds behind Reardon after the penalties were factored in. Once again, Tanasic proved he’s a serious contender by securing his place on the podium.

The final race of the day was a true thriller. Stockill and Reardon pushed each other to their limits, exchanging leads like seasoned pros. It was lap four when Stockill made a daring move to take the lead. The tension remained high until the very end, with Stockill crossing the finish line just under a second ahead of Reardon. However, it was Reardon who ultimately set a new outright track record with a blistering fastest lap of 46.83 seconds, while Stockill wasn’t far behind at 46.95 seconds. How exciting to witness such fierce competition!

Looking Ahead: Upcoming Races and Opportunities

The series is set to continue its adrenaline-fueled journey at Le Circuit Mount Tremblant’s Go-Kart venue on August 27 and 28, followed by the RACEMoto Ontario Regional event at Shannonville Motorsport Park on September 5 and 6. Both venues are new to hosting a MiniGP National event, adding an extra layer of anticipation as racers and fans alike look forward to the next thrilling chapter of this series.

As the season progresses, it will be fascinating to see how these young competitors adapt and refine their strategies and skills. The Canadian National FIM Motul MiniGP Series not only highlights the rising stars of motorsport but also provides a valuable platform for their growth as athletes. Who knows? We might just be witnessing the birth of the next generation of racing legends!
