The Pro Motocross Championship kicked off its 54th season at the iconic Fox Raceway in Pala, California, where the sun shone brightly and temperatures were just right for a day filled with intense racing. This event marked the beginning of the second half of the SMX World Championship regular season, and it did not disappoint. Two rising stars showcased their talent with impressive performances that left fans on the edge of their seats.

Jett Lawrence dominates in the 450 Class

Returning from a torn ACL, Jett Lawrence of Team Honda HRC Progressive didn’t waste any time asserting his dominance. He achieved a remarkable 1-1 sweep in the 450 Class, leading every single lap. The first moto saw Lawrence start strong, securing the Pro Motocross Holeshot and quickly establishing a significant lead. As he pulled away, the race took a turn for defending champion Chase Sexton, who faced a setback when he had to remove his goggles and later crashed, resulting in a DNF.

Meanwhile, Lawrence continued to extend his lead, finishing the first moto with a comfortable double-digit advantage. Justin Cooper notched a career-best second place, while his brother Hunter Lawrence rounded out the top three. The second moto began with Hunter Lawrence taking the holeshot, but it was Jett who quickly regained control, demonstrating his exceptional speed and skill. Despite strong competition from Eli Tomac, Jett Lawrence managed to maintain his lead, ultimately finishing 11.8 seconds ahead of Tomac, marking his sixth consecutive moto win.

Haiden Deegan kicks off his title defense

In the 250 Class, Haiden Deegan of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing made his presence felt, starting the season with a commanding performance. After a solid start, he quickly moved up the ranks, eventually taking control of the first moto after a competitor’s misfortune. Deegan showcased impressive speed, cruising to victory by a margin of 6.6 seconds over his closest rival, Jo Shimoda, who finished in second place.

The second moto featured a fierce battle for the lead, with Deegan once again asserting his dominance. After navigating an early challenge, he managed to regain the lead and pull ahead, ultimately securing a second consecutive 1-1 finish for the day. This victory not only reflects Deegan’s determination to defend his title but also establishes him as a formidable contender in the championship standings.
