Peugeot unveils 500 hp RCZ Vision with solid-state battery at Paris Motor Show

At the Paris Motor Show 2026 Peugeot presented the RCZ Vision a concept that revives the name of the 2009-2015 coupé while pointing toward a fully electric future. The vehicle is positioned as a high-performance sports car, with the brand highlighting a power output of 500 hp a claimed driving range of up to 600 km and a rapid-charge capability that reaches 80 % state of charge in just 10 minutes. These figures are framed as a showcase of technologies that could shape upcoming production models.

The concept’s specifications are supported by a set of advanced systems. A partnership with Factorial Energy underpins the development of a solid-state battery that is only 110 mm thick. The battery is integrated into Peugeot’s new STLA One platform and operates at a nominal 1,000 V electrical architecture, a voltage level that enables higher power transfer while keeping charging currents lower. The

Powertrain, range and efficiency claims

The RCZ Vision is announced as a 500 hp electric coupé capable of covering 600 km according to the mixed WLTP cycle. Peugeot also quoted a consumption value of 11.5 kWh per 100 km a figure that, if confirmed, would position the car among the most efficient high-performance EVs. While acceleration times and top-speed data were not disclosed, the combination of a high power output and a modest consumption target signals an emphasis on delivering driving pleasure without sacrificing efficiency. The low drag coefficient achieved through a flattened roofline and a carefully sculpted underbody further supports the stated range.

Solid-state battery and 1,000 V rapid-charge system

The heart of the concept is the solid-state battery which replaces the liquid electrolyte found in conventional lithium-ion packs with a solid medium that allows ions to move between electrodes. This architecture aims to increase the energy density—the amount of stored energy relative to weight or volume—enabling a thinner pack that still delivers the required power. Peugeot reported a pack thickness of just 110 mm which helps keep the vehicle’s centre of gravity low and preserves the sporty silhouette. Specific capacity in kilowatt-hours or exact energy-density numbers were not released, so the real advantage over traditional cells cannot yet be quantified.

Coupled with the battery is a 1,000 V electrical architecture. Raising the system voltage allows the same charging power to be delivered with a lower current, reducing resistive losses and heat generation. According to the brand, this configuration enables the battery to climb from 10 % to 80 % state of charge in 10 minutes. Achieving such a rate would require charging stations capable of delivering high power, as well as sophisticated thermal-management and battery-management systems, none of which have been detailed publicly. The exact kilowatt rating of the fast-charge interface remains undisclosed.

By-wire cockpit, steering and aerodynamic design

Beyond the powertrain, Peugeot equipped the RCZ Vision with a suite of by-wire technologies. The Steer-by-Wire system works in conjunction with the brand-new Hypersquare control interface, eliminating the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the front wheels. The system dynamically adjusts the steering ratio based on vehicle speed: tight, low-speed manoeuvres require minimal wheel turn, while high-speed stability is maintained through a reduced ratio. This electronic steering solution is complemented by a Brake-by-Wire setup that replaces hydraulic actuation with electronic control, allowing precise modulation and seamless integration of regenerative braking.

The interior also showcases a transparent Micro-LED display as part of the next-generation i-Cockpit. Positioned above the Hypersquare, the display can be made virtually invisible when not needed, reducing visual clutter while still providing essential information within the driver’s line of sight. Aerodynamically, the thin battery pack enables a lower roofline, contributing to reduced drag and enhanced stability. Peugeot stresses the modularity of the STLA One platform, which is designed for easy recycling and component reuse at the end of the vehicle’s life cycle.

The combination of a high-output electric motor, a compact solid-state battery, a 1,000 V architecture and advanced by-wire controls points toward Peugeot’s ambition to blend performance with rapid charging and sustainability. Whether the announced 10-minute charge and 600 km range will materialise in future production models depends on the successful scaling of solid-state cell manufacturing, cost reduction and the deployment of compatible high-voltage charging infrastructure.
