Reflecting on 60 years of Seminole State College: A journey of growth

Discover how Seminole State College has shaped lives over six decades and how you can be part of its continued legacy.

August 29, 1966, was a momentous day in the history of education as Seminole State College of Florida, then known as Seminole Junior College, opened its doors for the very first time. This day marks not just the launch of an educational institution, but the birth of a vibrant community committed to fostering student success and making a positive impact. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the enduring spirit that has guided us from our humble beginnings to where we are today.

Rally & Raise Day: A Tradition of Giving

In 2018, we kicked off an exciting new tradition with the establishment of Rally & Raise Day on this historic date. This annual event brings together faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends for a day of celebration and collective action. But Rally & Raise Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a powerful showcase of College pride and a chance to support the programs and scholarships that truly transform lives. As we commemorate this significant milestone, we invite everyone connected to Seminole State College to get involved in this legacy and help shape the next 60 years of learning and opportunity.

Rally & Raise embodies our collective ambition to make a meaningful difference. Participants can join peer-to-peer fundraising teams that advocate for various scholarships, programs, or causes that resonate with them. Each campaign tells its own unique story, and every contribution—no matter how big or small—brings us closer to our goals, making a real impact on the lives of Seminole State students.

Engagement and Community Involvement

Your involvement in Rally & Raise is not just about making a financial contribution; it’s a reflection of your pride in our College and your commitment to our community. To boost participation and add a spark of excitement, we’ve introduced engaging challenges. For example, the fundraising page that receives the most gifts by the August 29 deadline will earn an additional $1,000, and there are monetary rewards for subsequent pages, too!

Additionally, an anonymous donor has launched a fantastic challenge to support five key areas within Seminole State College. Each individual fund that reaches 25 donors will receive a $500 matching contribution, potentially generating $2,500 for vital programs. This initiative not only encourages participation but also fosters a spirit of friendly competition among departments, with the top-performing area snagging a $1,000 grant for an initiative of their choice.

Celebrating with Pride

As part of the festivities, we encourage everyone to share their experiences on social media. By posting photos that capture your spirit of giving and community involvement with hashtags like #BeAnAngelDay and #RallyandRaise25, you could win prizes for your favorite causes. Plus, wearing Rally & Raise merchandise not only shows your support but also strengthens our community bond.

As we embark on this celebratory journey from August 20 to August 29, we invite you to join us in Rally & Raise—a day dedicated to supporting the programs and students of Seminole State. Your participation during this time amplifies the impact of your contributions, especially with the matching funds and challenges available this year.

In closing, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Zachary Holder, whose design was selected for this year’s official Rally & Raise T-shirt. To show our appreciation, all participants will receive a Foundation pride button, and donors contributing $20 or more will be gifted the exclusive Rally & Raise T-shirt.

In summary, this 60th anniversary is not just a moment to celebrate our past achievements; it’s an opportunity to look forward to a future brimming with potential and promise. We invite everyone in the Seminole State community to join us on this journey of giving and growth.
