Smart #1 Restyling: Faster Charging and Advanced Tech Upgrades

The Smart #1 is undergoing a significant transformation with an 800-volt platform, cutting-edge technology, and a refreshed design.

Smart #1 Restyling: Faster Charging and Advanced Tech Upgrades

The Smart #1, a collaborative effort between Mercedes-Benz and Geely is set to redefine the electric SUV segment with a comprehensive restyling. This update introduces a groundbreaking 800-volt architecture significantly enhancing the vehicle’s performance and convenience. The restyling, initially launched in China is poised to make waves globally, offering a glimpse into the future of electric mobility.

The Smart #1’s transformation is not just skin deep. While the exterior retains its distinctive design, subtle yet impactful changes elevate its aesthetic appeal. New color options, redesigned 19-inch alloy wheels, and an aerodynamic rear spoiler contribute to a more dynamic and efficient look. The introduction of a LiDAR sensor on the roof underscores the vehicle’s commitment to advanced technology and safety.

The Heart of the Transformation: 800-Volt Architecture

The most significant upgrade lies under the hood. The Smart #1 now boasts an 800-volt silicon carbide architecture a leap from the previous 400-volt system. This advancement enables faster charging reducing the time to charge from 10% to 80% from approximately 30 minutes to just 12 minutes under optimal conditions. The battery, now with a capacity of 61.5 kWh, supports a maximum charging power of around 370 kW in direct current.

The benefits of the 800-volt system are manifold. It reduces the current flowing through the cables, minimizing energy losses and heat generation. This efficiency allows the vehicle to maintain high charging powers for extended periods, drastically cutting down charging times. The Smart #1 joins a growing list of vehicles adopting this technology, including models from HyundaiKiaPorsche and Audi.

Advanced Technology and Enhanced Performance

The Smart #1’s restyling is accompanied by a host of technological advancements. The vehicle now features the EEA 4.0 electronic architecture a 4-nanometer processor, and the Flyme Auto operating system developed by Geely. These upgrades ensure seamless integration of infotainment and vehicle functions, providing a more intuitive and responsive user experience.

The driver assistance system has also been significantly enhanced. With 31 sensors, including the LiDAR, the Smart #1 offers advanced features such as map-free navigation in urban and highway environments, as well as improved parking assistance. The new 16-in-1 electric drive unit boasts a remarkable efficiency of 93.8%, integrating 12 hardware and 4 software elements for optimal performance.

The Future of Electric Mobility

The Smart #1’s restyling is a testament to the rapid evolution of electric vehicle technology. The adoption of 800-volt architectures is becoming increasingly common, even in models that were once considered exclusive. This shift is driven by the need for faster charging times and greater efficiency, making electric vehicles more accessible and convenient for everyday use.

As the Smart #1 prepares to make its mark in the global market, it sets a new standard for electric SUVs. With its advanced technology, enhanced performance, and sleek design, the Smart #1 is poised to lead the charge in the electric mobility revolution.
