Continental has introduced its latest motorcycle tire, the ContiSportAttack 5, aimed at enhancing the riding experience for enthusiasts of supersport bikes. Building on the innovations of the ContiSportAttack 4, this new model is specifically designed for riders who enjoy spirited rides on twisting roads and participate in track days. The ContiSportAttack 5 promises improved grip, enhanced stability, and quicker warm-up times, enabling riders to maximize their performance.
The enhancements are rooted in the tire’s updated compound and innovative construction. The unique groove design accelerates the warm-up period and ensures optimal tire performance, even under challenging conditions. Rafael Kascha, Product Developer of Motorcycle Tires at Continental, states, “Every aspect of the tread design is meticulously crafted to enhance riding dynamics.”
Advanced design features
The ContiSportAttack 5 incorporates several advanced features that contribute to its superior performance. Among these, micro-grooves are strategically positioned along its edges to maintain the tire within its ideal temperature range, which is crucial for achieving maximum grip during aggressive cornering. Additionally, the increased grooving in the mid-shoulder area enhances water displacement, making the tire more reliable when leaned over in wet conditions.
Innovative construction methods
A standout feature of this tire is its advanced steel belting technology. Utilizing a MultiZoneBelt configuration, the design features a denser steel belt in the center, which boosts straight-line stability. In contrast, broader steel belts on the shoulders facilitate a larger contact patch during cornering, instilling confidence in riders navigating sharp turns. The transition zone between the center and shoulder is crafted to support quick and agile steering responses.
Targeted performance for riders
Continental has positioned the ContiSportAttack 5 as an 80/20 tire, excelling in both street riding and occasional track use. This dual focus makes it an ideal choice for riders of modern supersport and naked motorcycles, including the BMW S 1000 RR and Yamaha YZF-R9, as well as powerful naked bikes like the BMW S 1000 R and Kawasaki Z 900. This versatility allows motorcyclists to enjoy their rides without the need for tire pressure adjustments or warmers, making it a practical option.
Christoph Ettenhuber, Head of Business Field Motorcycle Tires at Continental, emphasizes that the ContiSportAttack 5 is designed for “performers” – riders who demand technical excellence and dynamic capabilities from their tires. “For them, the thrill of sport riding is paramount, and the ContiSportAttack 5 delivers precisely that.”
Riding experience
The tire is engineered to support speeds up to 320 km/h, depending on size, and is designed for both daily use and high-performance track days. This capability enables riders to confidently navigate scenic routes and closed-course training without sacrificing performance. Kascha highlights, “We’ve constructed a tire that excels during leisurely rides through mountain passes while also thriving in rigorous track conditions.”
As Continental prepares to launch the ContiSportAttack 5 in the first quarter of 2026, it will be available in key sizes catering to various motorcycles, including: 120/70 ZR 17 M/C (58W) TL, 160/60 ZR 17 M/C (69W) TL, 180/55 ZR 17 M/C (73W) TL, 190/55 ZR 17 M/C (75W) TL, and 200/55 ZR 17 M/C (78W) TL. This range of options ensures that riders can find the perfect fit for their machines, enhancing their riding experience with every twist and turn.
