With the launch of the Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 and the revamped Ford Super Duty Tremor, Ram is preparing to respond with its 2025 2500 Power Wagon and 2500 Rebel HD. While reliable, this engine does not match the power of the Ford 7.3-liter Godzilla V-8. The Rebel HD features the same standard gas V-8 but introduces an optional 6.7-liter Cummins inline-6 turbodiesel, which has been significantly updated for 2025. This engine, priced at $12,595, offers a notable 1,075 lb-ft of torque, surpassing the Chevy’s 975 lb-ft but falling short of Ford’s impressive 1,200 lb-ft.

With the turbodiesel engine, towing capacity increases to 19,890 pounds, while the payload decreases to 2,450 pounds. The Power Wagon, however, is limited to a towing capacity of 10,530 pounds and a payload of 1,570 pounds, reflecting its specialized off-road design.

During a test drive in the challenging terrains of Nevada’s Old Kingman Highway Recreational area, the differences between the two trucks became evident. The Rebel, lacking an electronic disconnecting front sway bar, struggled with traction, leading to a wheel lifting off the ground. In contrast, the Power Wagon maintained better contact with the terrain, demonstrating superior traction management. On rough gravel roads, the Power Wagon’s softer suspension allowed for a faster and more comfortable ride, while the Rebel’s firmer setup resulted in a jarring experience.
Design updates and interior features
Both models feature notable design revisions, including updated grilles and headlights. The front end of the Ram HD lineup now showcases taller grilles and a more commanding appearance. Meanwhile, the rear has been streamlined with simpler taillights, aligning with the updated aesthetics of the 2025 Ram 1500.
Inside, the Ram HD models are recognized for their luxurious interiors. The standard 12.0-inch touchscreen can be upgraded to a larger 14.5-inch display, enhancing user experience.
