The Saab Scania Club Italia recently hosted its first-ever rally, bringing together a diverse group of classic car enthusiasts. The event, which took place from June 19 to June 20, 2026 showcased a collection of rare and iconic Saab vehicles produced between 1946 and 1990. Enthusiasts from Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Poland gathered in Carzago Riviera, Brescia to kick off this memorable journey.

The rally began with a group photo featuring a Saab 91 Safir a trainer aircraft produced from 1946 to 1966. Participants then embarked on a scenic drive along the Mincio River passing through picturesque towns such as Padenghe sul GardaLonatoDesenzano and Peschiera. The touristic nature of the rally allowed participants to explore charming villages and castles, which were particularly appreciated by international attendees. The evening concluded with a display of the classic cars in Piazza Sordello Mantova, in front of the Palazzo Ducale.

The Journey Continues to Verona

On the morning of June 20 the rally continued to San Martino della Battaglia before culminating in Piazza Bra Verona. The event provided a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to admire a wide range of Saab models, from the earliest 99 to the later 9000 series. The 99 Saab’s first modern car, featured a motor developed by Scania based on a Triumph chassis. The 900 series, available in both sedan and coupe versions, and the 9000 a result of a collaboration with Fiat, were also highlights of the event.

Awards and Recognitions

The rally included an elegance contest named after Sixten Sason the designer behind all Saab vehicles from the 92 to the 99. The contest was organized by the Saab Scania Club Italia and the Saab Club Nederland. Awards were given in four categories: 99900 sedan and Combi coupe900 cabriolet and 9000.

The 99 category was won by Hanna Rovinski the sole Polish participant, with her GLE model. Ermanno De Marchi took home the award for the 900 sedan and Combi coupe category with his 1991 Aero. Davide Turchet won the 900 cabriolet category with his 1993 model, while Frank and Hanna Schneider were awarded for their 1993 9000. The 900 cabriolet was the most represented model, reflecting its popularity among Saab enthusiasts. Other notable models included a Combi Coupé with rare Inca wheels an American Turbo in iconic cherry red and several 9000 models, which are gaining favor among German collectors.

The inaugural rally of the Saab Scania Club Italia was a resounding success, bringing together enthusiasts and showcasing the rich history of Saab vehicles. The event not only celebrated these classic cars but also provided a platform for enthusiasts to share their passion and appreciation for these iconic models.
